I just got my 99 back from the shop (the radiator cracked and was replaced) and they told me the air filter was disgustingly dirty. I had just pulled the filter this winter and cleaned it, I maybe put 1,000 miles on her. The car has a older A&A SC kit on her, long tube headers, etc. She puts down 528HP. Is it normal for a SC Corvette to get the air filter so dirty in such a short time? It was kind of a pain to pull and clean. Thinking about ordering a couple more filters from ECS.
Not sure why it was a pain to pull and clean. The A&A filter is super simple to remove. I never really cleaned or replaced mine either and have a replacement on the way. Should be here today actually. It's just packed with crap that I couldn't even blow out with a 125psi shop hose.
I live in AZ and neglected my filter. Just cleaned it a few days ago. Cant remember the last time I cleaned it but it was filthy, the worst its ever been. Id guess at least 6 months since I last cleaned it. I felt ashamed. I got the A&A kit also and it does a good job of directing air and anything else straight into the filter, and radiator for that matter.
I live in AZ as well and I must admit, I haven't cleaned mine in over a year and half!😔
will be doing it next week hopefully. Also SC and will be doing a can with a meth kit.
I just cleaned my A&A SC air filter recently too, and I was amazed how dirty it was. I placed an order for a pre-filter that I read about in this thread.
And one other thing, I'm done parking on grass. The C5 is a vacuum cleaner (bottom breather) anyway, but the supercharger really increases the amount of debris it collects in the air filter, condenser, and radiator.

Some guys pushing big blowers to the max run into dirty filters causing them to lose psi. Tbh I’d assume the smaller blowers may not have as big as an issue since they’re not sucking the same cfm
