My engine is a 402 with PRC 225s and a jam cam and will be running a V3Ti. It is likely to be comfortably north of the 600hp limit stated by A&A on their site for their stock 38mm turbosmart BOV / bypass.
If this were a turbo setup and a proper BOV, I'd be all about going with a sharp / loud piece. On SC setups the intent is the same as far as relieving pressure from the charge system, but it happens when you let off the boost and need to evacuate pressure ahead of the IC and you end up with a long flatulent whooosh noise instead.
I don't think I really want a loud flatulent bypass valve.
Is there a trick to go big but keep it quiet?
Also, A&A sells the Big Bubba but as a kit for $430 where I need none of the associated piping since I already have it. Is there any internal difference to their version of the Big Bubba? Otherwise, it can be had for about $300.
Am I barking up the right tree seeking the Turbosmart? Should I look at Tial or others? I imagine it doesn't make much difference but maybe I would be suprised.
The Big Bubba is no different than the 38mm, it's just larger so you'll need the t-pipe that taps into your plumbing. You can definitely turn the Big Bubba into a recirculating valve with one simple hose and some creative routing. I'm running the Big Bubba with the filter on and it's definitely louder than the 38mm was with no filter, but it's nothing crazy or obnoxious. I wouldn't describe it as a flatulent sound, it's more like a heavy exhale sound. I've seen it described as a street sweeper and I feel that's pretty accurate.
