I am not a turbo or supercharging expert or even a novice but I wonder why the dynos looked the way they do on the above link. It seems that the turbo would keep making more power as the revs climbed. On the first dyno the picture says they turned off the car thats the reason for the steep drop off in power. But the second dyno they let it run and it shows a huge drop in power where the stock ZO6 held its power curve all the way up.

Can someone answer why the Turbo motor drops off the power band so dramatically after 5500 rpm? Is this a fuel air problem or wrong size turbo?

Thanks for your help.

i've been around turbo cars since 1986 with my SCCA 944 turbo and a few other turbo cars.

Iam not an expert but looking at his list of parts

Turbonetics 62-1 hybrid turbo with polished compressor housing
321 stainless header coated by ToefCo
Turbonetics racegate polished
38lb gm injectors

my guess would be 1. possible too small a turbo for the amount of air needed at the upper RPM band. 2. 38lb injectors = a lean condition above 475 rhp requiring bigger injectors to keep the computer from retarding the timing.

this is just a guess please chime in if my guesses are incorrect.

still alot of power and glad to see a reasonabe priced turbo for the C-5

Why don't you ask Cerra themselves. I'm sure the would be more than happy to answer your question. :yesnod:

Sometimes, these types of questions here turn into a tuner bash fest with people that think they know more than the tuner. :(

I believe Blacksun just tried the Q-Trim option on the 62-1 Turbo and it helped smooth the curve to 5500, but the 62-1 is still undersized.

Btw, this isn't vendor bashing, this is standard turbo sizing based on the engine's requirements. Feel free to call any other turbo vendor on the planet to discuss the flow requirements of a 346 cid engine and properly sizing a turbo and reading turbo maps. It's easy enough to use their entire kit and choose a different turbo with a better map or a custom turbo since most the off the shelfs won't do due to space requirements with the stock hood.
