I have only 750 miles on the new engine, and poof... Massive amounts of white clouds shoot out from the exhaust. The car is not running anywhere near normal, missing and sputtering. Scarry. Incredible smell was all about. Overwelming indeed. I was stumped.
I took the solenoid apart the other night, with friends of mine, and discovered the right side solenoid rubber seal was torn and failing. It was not able to seal correctly. This failure caused raw gas to be injected into the motor, massive amounts of fuel was being burned... vaporized.
Amazingly I never even powered the system up, and this had still failed. Unreal....I am thankful that the motor seems to be alright. Everything checked out normal.
Cylinder pressure .165-170 Thank God.
Like I said, I never even turned the system on and it failed. [/B]
Bruce , now that you identified the root cause of the problem and resolved it have you had a chance to hit that 300 SHOT ?

Jeff:
This is a sad and very long story.
In a nut shell, after my experience, the answer is no.
Simply put, I am happy just to have the car back running.
Indeed I have had better times.
so what is the white smoke from? If your compression is good, then your pistons are okay?

This failure caused raw gas to be injected into the motor, massive amounts of fuel was being burned... vaporized. Pistons are functing ok, as far as I can tell.
I thought rich fuel would give a black color of smoke?
Coolant white?
Did you check your oil for a milky color?
You sure you didn't go lean??
No, the fuel was vaporizing, there were massive amounts of fuel injected into the motor, at high pressure. It was Bright White!
The oil was fine, just changed today.
But it was black indeed.
i know this goes without saying, but if you disconnect the fuel supply does it still blow smoke?
There is a "Y" joint in the fuel line that I looped so as to bypass the NX solenoid. It was not effecting the stock fuel supply going to the motor.
The motor burned off the excess gas vapor, but it took 15-30 minutes to clear up completely.
Sorry to hear about your desaster with the direct port setup!!:cry
Hope all is ok with the engine.
Wish you the BEST!!
Michael
Thanks Michael, the engine seems ok.
Thanks for your concern. It was very scarry though....
I will be modifing the system in the comming days.
Hopefully it will be safe and operational soon.
My system still needs pleanty more attension before I can get back to the drag strip....

Food for thought:
Remember, before you have someone work on your car, check them out.
And check them out throughly.
Don't make a mistake like I did.
My system still needs pleanty more attension before I can get back to the drag strip....sub-standard quality combined with inexperience can have costly and long term negative effects.
Not to mention, it takes a lot of the fun out of racing.
Bruce
Bruce, do you have a spereate fuel system??
No pump could take a 300 shot + engine, so I think you have, right.
But then , how can the fuel be injected during normal driving???

Mike:
I have a booster pump installed, but I am changing the system though... I am not comfortable with it, .. it is just not what I had hoped for.
It looks pretty bad too, embarrasing if you will.
The fuel rails will not fit on the engine anymore because of the way it was installed. This really bugs me.
Frankly, I wish that I would have never done this mod.
And if you look close, you can see where I had to disconnect and reroute (loop) the fuel line in order to bypass the soleniod because of the it's recent failure.
I am embarrased to show you these images.

..........The spark plugs were a little cooked...............
Hey Bruce, I'm thinking of doing a DP system on my Z28 and just came across this thread. I really like the look of your MMS/NX system. Would you consider selling it? I'm not crazy enough to run a 300 shot but I'm thinking a 200 shot direct port with an MMS forged bottom end will make for a 9 second slip! :steering: I've already run 10.6 with their 396 all bore motor, on motor alone.
Also not to start a fight or anything but I don't see how an NX solenoid getting stuck open is an installation issue. Seems like an NX issue to me? Be thankful it wasn't the N2O solenoid!!

Yikes pretty harsh! Is there another thread where you've outlined the "sub-standard" quality and "inexperience"? I'd love to read the details before I comment.
