That filter is there to dissipate the air coming out of the BOV line. IF that filter was not there, you would have an (optional) C5 Leaf Blower attachment!
I found out how great that works when I lost my BOV filter.... Swept the entire garage out with one rev of the engine!!
Steve, what kind of BOV do you have now? Do you still get the sputtering soiund when you are out of boost/shifting? I think I need to adjust mine. Glad you're enjoying the C5. :D
lol, I still have the POS ATI BOV... (lots of abreviations there :) ) My car surges at even load on the engine. I am thinking it may be the BOV. This is the second POS ATI BOV on the car though.. At this point I am not sure what is causing it... I am fishing for answers now. :banghead:
POS? I know that it may be ugly, and quite a simple part. Though I have had them work for many many years. And quite frankly have had them out flow a rather expencive "BOV" that you call it. If you can find a cheaper "BOV" or a "Bypass valve" that can outflow it, or last it, be my guest. As far as astetics are concerned, it is junk. But as far as saving a belts, or compressor damage due to surge...it's top notch.
I took the filter off mine, and used a foot and a half of that same hose, and ran it up towards to corner of my bumper cover, to do 2 things.
1. then it didn't blow dust up off the ground in construction areas.
2. it deadened some of the sounds that it produced.
