I just completed an ATI install (D-1SC) along with a new manifold, exaust, headers, 42# injectors...etc. I got the car tuned perfectly, but for some reason it keeps running hot, like really hot!! It is 45 degrees outside and I pegged the coolant gauge at 260 within 15 minutes of taking the car out. So I installed a 160 stat and that helped a little, but it's still running about 240. Water Wetter didn't help at all. Could it be my water pump? What else could I be missing here? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
I had the same thing happen to me once, but it tuned out to be a problem with the gauge and the coolant was not really hot at all. I hooked up a scanner and it read about 190* even though the gauge on the dash would peg. Mine would be reading normal and then it would suddenly just peg (that gave me a clue that something funny was going on). I reset the PCM and the problem went away.
If the gauge rises slowly (or matches the readings of a scanner), you may have another problem.
There have been some overheating issues with the ATI setup related to the fan and shroud design, but your problem sounds different to me.
Here are some things to consider.
1. Did you get all the air pockets out of the cooling system after the refill. This is a common problem.
2. Is the fan coming on and is it spinning in the right direction (it should be pulling air)
3. Is your air dam and outer fan shroud in place.
check your fan. It may be bad or wired backwards.
You should be able to put a piece of paper on the radiator on the front side and have it stick when the fan is running.
Yes I've made sure all that is working properly. I flushed the cooling system and there are no air pockets, the fan is working correctly and the fan shroud and the lower air dam are both in place......what else could this be????

You and Mike posted at the same time... did you check rotation of your fan like Mike suggested? Also, a 160 t-stat will be more effective when you can get your fan reprogrammed for it...

Problem solved!!! For some reason when the car was at idol, the fan would work, but anytime I was driving it or in traffic, it would switch off. Turns out the electrical system was shot. Got a new heavy duty fan in and now I can't get the coolant temp over 195 in stop and go traffic in 85 degree weather. I'm happy!!

I'm not quite sure how it happened. There was a short in the wireing and the fan would cut in and out whenever it felt like it. Usualy it just stayed off. It turned out to be a really easy fix, just embarassed that it wans't the 1st thing that I checked!
