Nitrous Pet-Peeve...
I've been using Nitrous or N20 now for several years and have always called it either Nitrous or Nitrous Oxide. Ever since the ridiculas movie the Fast and Furious came out now EVERYONE including many on this forum call Nitrous Oxide....NOS and then of course pronounce it NAAAWS
I'm not trying to be ****, but after around 10 car shows this summer including one yesterday...it really grates my nerves to hear not only a teenage rice jockey, but also grown men call my Nitrous Oxide System by Nitrous Express.....NAAAAWS
So to recap the periodic element configuration for Nitous Oxide is N20....the symbols NOS are for a company Nitrous Oxide Systems that manufacturers Nitrous systems for cars. If you are a person over 25 years of age and you refer to any system out loud VERBALLY... EVER.... as NAAAWWWS, then you are infact a moron!! :smash: :smash: :yesnod: :yesnod:
Thanks I feel better now, have a great day!

I couldn't agree more with you. When I had nitrous on my car back when F&F first came out, I was almost embarassed to say I had it on my car when people asked in fear that I would be compared to the car guys in that show!

Re: Nitrous Pet-Peeve... (Devil Dog)
It is probably pronounced NOZ because of the manufactuer NOS trademark.

Re: Nitrous Pet-Peeve... (Z06GMAN)
It does irritate the living s*** out of me too! When someone asks if I have NAWSS, I just say "No." If they take the hint and say "nitrous" I say "Oh yeah, love it!" I know it shouldn't bug me - but it does. Almost as much as those stupid fart can exhaust outlets and "performance" racing stickers....

Re: Nitrous Pet-Peeve... (LS1 Bird)
Why do you guys complain so much about what young kids do to their cars? My Dad was telling me stories about how everything he did to his cars when he was younger his dad would get mad at and make him take them off. So I am sure when you guys were younger you did things that other people didn't like. Kids can afford hondas and stuff like "fart" pipes. They can't afford to be in a 50k car and be able to mod it like you guys do. i am sure they would if the could. It is ignorant on your part for making fun of them for calling a certain performance item a different name that they came up w/. I am sure you came up w/ your own names for things when you were young. Kaley

BTW: Relax a little, your obviously a younger guy and have probably used some of the "import racing crowd" terms. I honestly don't really care what anyone calls whatever, as long as they know that they sound like idiots. Part that makes me really laugh is that they honestly believe that they are

You must be an old timer if you call it, "running on the juice." I'm only 26 and feel like an old timer...

It seems to me, English is an ever evolving language and like it or not, phrases do not require unanimous approval to be adopted and added to the language. Terms like NOS are simply phrases of the day. As phrases become popular and utilized they become a part of the English language (please explain "groovy" to me). This is precisely why "Ebonics" is no longer taught in most educational institutions. As words become common place, the English language adopts the new words; therefore, it's not a separate language or dialect, instead it simply becomes part of the English language. Like it or not, NOS is simply one of those additions.
Finally, I am not certain that the use of the term "NOS", necessarily speaks to ones intelligence?
