i have all the top stuff off except the ps pulley.....i will be going under the car after a smoke and a beer.......time to tackle the rack and pinion and get the drill out :D
well ia m setting the depth on my drill bit stop and am wondering how much extra clearance the pin need depth wise...i am using ATI's pin kit and the pin is .750...i am thinking a depth of .825 should be plenty but i have done a search and checked ati's site with no luck :mad .....i will tell you one thing ....that crank bolt is FRIGGIN tight
Hold up a minute! Something looks wrong with the torque value when re-installing the crank bolt. I posted a thread a while back and discovered the torque should 37 lbs. plus 140 degrees to "stretch" the bolt.
Can someone confirm this please? The directions you posted here call for 111lbs.??? Just wanna prevent any mistakes here.
Also, I see the directions called for an "HSS 1/4" drill bit", what's this? And lastly is that a solid dowel pin you need to install or a roll pin?
I want to get my facts straight for when it's MY turn to do the install. :lurk:
Just my little way of saying "thank you" to everyone that's helped me get the car the way I want it! :D Matter of fact, I've got a bunch of mods to add to my list........
HSS stands for high strength steel i think....and the pin is solid stainless.....all my torque values i get right from the gm manual........i always use the book first then come here if i cant find out what i need to know i have a snap-on torque angle gauge here on my desk along with 3 big red gm books   and a cold heineken and some marlboros.....the hole is drilled and pin is in....now some heavy duty arm bending on the big bolt :D :D :D
Wow! Glad I caught this post. Looks like the on-torque for the new bolt is 111ft/lbs + 114 degrees. I'm taking notes on your install, be sure to pass along any other helpful suggestions as you happen to come across them.
i am going by the gm manual for a 2003 corvette in book 2of3 on page 6-367.it says "tighten balancer bolt to 50N.m(37lb ft) and on the second pass 140 degrees :D
As for my install, it's a tempting offer but I want to save a few more pennies and get my bottom end forged. I won't be installing for a few more weeks.
Re: vortech install started tonight (Rollin Black)
perry....wouldnt it be fun to boost up the old ls6 first and scatter it all over 3 lanes of I-5 :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: well...the bolt is done  believe me 140 degress will knock the contacts outta your head.....it took 4 grunts which is about 250lbs      now to get going with the fun stuff tonight.....i better quit pounding the heine's or it will be a early night
:mad :mad :mad :mad when i drilled the hole in the oil pan (with a roto-broach) the little piece of metal left over dropped in the pan and i cant seem to find it anywhere in there....i used a borescope and dont see it....i wonder if the little piece of aluminum will haunt me later......i really dont want to pull the engine and oil pan :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss
