Default Fuel system recommendations?

Since the car is down waiting for FLP L5 trans to arrive, I thought I'd review the fuel system. Looks like tuning bumped the torque over what the stock trans could handle.

In my head I'm thinking 57lb High-Z injectors (66lb @58psi), Racetronix pump, and Kenne-Bell boost-a-pump.

Other recommended mods I've heard are; '97 fuel rails (allows higher boost at rails), aftermarket fuel rails (larger I.D. for even fuel distribution), MSD booster (ractronix recommended), and PnP (unknown thing racetronix recommended). Also I'm interested in 75lb High-Z injectors rumored to come out in January.

I'd like to do this only once. Any recommended combinations?

Background
The fuel system is completely stock except for injectors which measured at 44lbs. I think they're Bosch 38lb since they're light gray. During EASE runs the injectors were 137% duty cycle (DC) and 26mSec pulse at 6,300rpm (meaning they were always on). From the EASE runs hp was calculated at 705fwhp/598rwhp before it was tuned. Fuel pressure is steady at 60psi, and under WOT never dropped below 55psi. JR at TeamZR-1 calculates that my max DC should be 80% with BSFC of .50. Theoretical HP would be factor of increase in fuel flow, so going from 44lb to 48lb (8%) would bump power 8% from 705fwhp to 768fwhp.

After I buy the A&A 8-rib setup, I'm planning on adding another 10psi of boost, primarily for higher boost at lower rpm, otherwise for reasons of insanity.

I think this is taking you in the right direction. If you find that pressure is a problem you can always upgrade to the 97/98 fuel rail... thats what I am going to do as well..

I was just reading this post to learn about fuel systems, so I can't really help with your question. This statement, however, made me so jealous I can hardly type...I've now added you to my list of heroes. :D

Id be interested to see what others think as well. I am building a fuel system now for a projected 700rwhp. I was wondering at what point are aftermarket fuel rails and lines needed? thanks

 Cheers Vetterdstr, I'm wondering if I should do the fuel rail right away since it's a return-type fuel system. The recommendation by Racetronix to use larger ID aftermarket rails for better fuel distribution makes me wonder which rails to use since the '97-'98 return-type doesn't have a larger ID. I'm kinda hoping to avoid the aftermarket rails since the ones I've seen look tacked-on and the connectors for it, dubious.

I'm hoping to avoid creating another year-long mods project for myself, I'd rather plan it out this time. I don't want to keep replacing previous mods.

SleepieAce - I do believe I've lost my mind. I haven't taken my car to the track, I don't street race, it already has traction problems. Since there's no logical reason for the planned power upgrades, I think I must've lost it somewhere along the way.
:D :yesnod: :lolg:

I don't think you will get a clear answer on this one. I really think it is another one of those (learn as you go things). There is just not enough data at this point. The lpe 427 TT cars use the 97 fuel rail with sucess, that is the only data point I know for sure. I'm putting the '97 rail in this weekend and will post my results and other info sometime next week. http://www.ls1speed.com does sell some bigger rails.

If you go with the return style rail would these eliminate the need for a boost-a-pump since you could use an aeromotive FPR, etc?

If you want to do it at the same time, I would get the 97/98 rail now and install it. LPE uses that setup for the 427 TT on all year C5's... I think if something else was better they would be using it.

Hmm, 3 recommendations in a row from the learned suggesting '97 fuel rails and referencing LPE. That deserves attention. It makes sense that for fuel pressure to be meaningful, it has to be at the injectors. I know non-return fuel systems have trouble 'keeping it up' at the rails though pump pressure is high.

It's soundling like a solid setup would be a '97 fuel rail setup, racetronix, and injectors. Out the window would be the B-A-P and custom rails.

Any DIY instructions on '97 rail conversions? A conversion from non-return type to return type sounds...involved.

I agree that would proably be the best setup. One thing that might be hard to do is run the return line all the way back to the tank. My thinking is that since you have to run a new line anyway, go with a bigger AN hose, and use the stock line as the new return line? I agree a tutorial would be neeeded as I have many questions such as is the regulator intank still needed, do you need to swap the fuel pump housing with a pre 98 style so it has a return feed, etc.

Guys, looking into finding a return style fuel rail is going to cost almost as much as a nice set of aftermarket rails. I think I am going to go with a 8 or 10 AN line from the tank to the front, Aeromotive regulator with 1:1 rising fuel pressure (with boost), use the stock line for return and install a pre 98 pump housing in the tank. Rough cost should be about 500.00. Any thoughts? This is similar to what Harlan is running on his 800hp monster so Im sure it should suffice.
