The event I know of were bent rods from detonation. A tuner had effectively disabled KR by limiting the amount of timing retard.

Stock rods hold pretty good if you install ARP rod bolts.My friend pushed 630hp/550tq on stock rods/forged pistons without any problems.Of course I would prefer upgrading the rods with the pistons.

Race gas will help, and pulling timing reduces detonation. With FI, alcohol injection is a viable means too. Having adequate fuel pressure will reduce it. I think that one of the most important keys is to have a good tuner tune your car.

I hear that the stock rods are pretty darn strong, but the rod bolts were up-graded in 2001.

I was reading an article on powder metal rods that some company makes and they are almost as strong as 4230 forged rods, but cost less to make.
