Default Onboard computer is in (pics inside).

I've been gathering parts and writing software for this for quite some time and I finally got it all installed and working.

It turned out much better than I ever expected. It still has a few quirks, but it pretty much rocks as is.

Everything is hidden away and all I have to do is flip down the visor and I’m logging data. I also have alarms and all kinds of cool gizmos built into this stuff. If my tune is not right on target, it lets me know with a variety of obnoxious sirens. I also have it setup to do some pretty simple predictive stuff. If I do a pull past say 5 psi, it automatically logs all the data for that event plus 5 seconds before and after. It works great! It is somewhat integrated with EFI-Live, but I’m waiting on the next rev of it before I spend too much time on a totally integrated setup. I was hoping to be on their beta program, but they said they only wanted people with stock cars (I still don’t quite follow that one).

I already had the basic data acquisition stuff and software in place, this just allows it all to become part of the normal driving experience since it is always there.

Oh yea, I can also play DVDs and listen to MP3s . The docking station is also really cool. I just pull out the laptop and take it inside when I want to really dig into the data or load up some new MP3s. It is also safely secured when the system is in the car.

Here are a few teaser pics.

I’ll post more details in the future when I’m completely done playing around with it.

One more thing I forgot to mention. It is all touch screen driven.

Yea, the monitor is held in place by one bolt and can be removed. The VGA cable for the monitor makes it a little tricky (since it is kind big and is actually behind the cloth of the visor. I got a little too wrapped up in trying to hide the cables.

I wanted to do a motorized in-dash stereo type setup, but they were way too expensive and I'm not sure if there is one available that supports touch screen/mouse emulation for a PC right now.

This is sort of a poor man's implementation. I only have about $300 dollars into the entire thing and 95% of that was the monitor. That is not including the WB and all the other data acquisition stuff (I already had all that going). All the PC parts are from old outdated/broken systems that I cannibalized to make one working system.

Very nice setup, Quick.

What language did you write your custom software in? Where'd you get the COM port spec that let you know what commands to send to the PCM to get the values you wanted?
