Default 400 Rwhp?

I want to do heads, cam, headers and exhaust and of course a dyno tune to my 2000 vette.

Is 400 rwhp a realistic goal? Also, this is my daily driver and my only ride. If i go this route, what reliability am I going to lose? Am i going to have to have springs, lifters, timing etc adjusted every couple of thousand miles? Sorry if this is a newbie question.

Also what do you recommend and what's the cost. I have some friends that will help with the install provided I help and bring some beer. For after each days work of course.

Yes, you'll get more if you're doing heads too. If the 375-400 range is good enough you could even get by with the stock heads (just replace the springs). Heck, I think some guys here are even getting around 415 with the stock heads.....

Nope.....not at all like the "old days". You'll need a good tune right off the bat, but then after that it's just routine maintenance.....not much different than if it were stock.

Shop around for the parts. There's a few good cam threads over in the tech section.....and then there's www.ls1tech.com too.

If you skip the heads and do labor yourself can get probably get away for around $2K + tune, with the majority of the cost being the headers. If you want heads you're looking closer to $4K if you're gonna get anything decent (AFR, etc)......

You should start with a budget >$5000 for a heads/cam/headers project. There are so many little things you are going to need to do the job properly. 400RWHP is a realistic goal with a well behaved street cam (eg. TR224 or smaller)

Here's one of the Cam threads in the tech section that I mentioned, and it also speaks of the TR224 cam that sprinter mentions.....

Not sure which trans you have but look in my sig for mods to get 413rwhp and 394rwtq. My car aside form the exhaust noise sounds really close to stock. If you listen real close you can hear just the slight hint of lope but most people cant hear it at all. The listed parts with the dyno tune cost me just under $5000 but I bought quite a few parts from forum members here versus paying full retail. Good Luck!!

Not sure if your car is a a4 or m6, 400 rwhp with stock heads requires a decent size cam. What are your thoughts on driveability? I would suggest finding some locals with different sized cams and go for a ride with them. That will gie you an idea of what you can live with or want to live with.
