Although I've been reading the Forum religiously for months, this will be my first post.
I have a '03 6-speed coupe. Of late I have been noticing a fluttering noise coming from the engine compartment, it is especially noticable when I am accelerating and the RPM's are above 3,000. I checked under the hood to see if I could pinpoint where the noise is coming from. My best guess is that it seems to be coming from the fan belt. It seems like it might be a bearing in one of the gears. Has this happened to anyone? Any ideas on what it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....
You probably need someone to gently raise the rpms while you're looking into the engine compartment. Any "fluttering" if it's significant should be visible and if it's an idler bearing; water pump; whatever; it would be more noticable with the hood up. Good luck.
Also, there is an tensioner pulley and idler pulley for both the main drive belt and the AC belt. Bearings in these have been know to go bad so you might want to check these too. There has been several posts here in the past on the tensioner and idler pulleys. If you can get the Forum search feature to cooperate, you may be able to find some of these. You can also find a little more info on this here:
