Default 6 spd shifter question...

Im installing a new Hurst shifter. Has anyone cut down the length of a Hurst? And if so, how does it shift? It's already shorter than factory, and I was wondering if making it any shorter would make it too hard to shift. Also how much did you cut off...?

Would you do it again...? please be honest..... Thanks..

The install is so easy - I would install it forst and drive it as it is - You can always cut it down later , but you can't add it back after you cust it. For me mine was short enough with just the Hurst as it came from Hurst - Also I got a shift ball which made it "feel" even shorter

Good luck trying to cut it off. That shifter is harder than Chinese arithmetic! You'll love your Hurst, though. What a difference it made to my driving pleasure.

With the above. Try it first. I haven't heard of anyone cutting one down. But I have seen some pretty short shifters here so it's not out of the question.

I have my Hurst shifter and love it. I'm just not sure I would want to cut my shifter and have to stick my hand through the floorboard to shift. Do as you please and enjoy.

IMHO, it is already too hard to shift. I was going to get one but after driving an 04 Z06 with one I decided it was too stiff. Others like just fine. The throws are pleanty short, I don't think you would want to shorten the shaft any. My fix was cutting 1" off the stock shifter. It doesn't have as short a throw as the Hurst, but feels much better than stock. I would recommend trying that first before spending the cash on the Hurst.

When I installed mine I also added a WCC armrest cover which gives the effect of a shorter shifter as your elbow is raised up a few inches. The two mods worked well for me.

Get one of these shift *****.....

http://www.mgwltd.com/corvette.html

They screw ALL the way down and you can make your shifter AS SHORT as you want. Here's mine on my B&M shifter....doesn't come out of the console more than 3-4 inches...

Thanks for all the input guys...I already bought the Hurst shifter and had planned on leaving it stock anyway. Just wanted to see if any had been modified. Im putting the old style Hurst T handle on mine. Already modified it by drilling it out and tapping it to 9/16 X 18....I love those old Tee's....I think they look

I'll take some pics when its all installed....
