Mine has popped out of first, but I usually don't have a problem popping out of reverse. It can be kind of tight getting it into reverse (or first) sometimes. You may just need to double clutch it to get the gears to mesh properly.

This is a very common thing with the 6 speed. 1st and reverse will sometimes not completely engage if you just stick it in gear. Hold the shifter in gear while you slowly let up the clutch and you will feel it go into gear....

Popping out of gear
My 98 M6 vert will sometimes pop out of first if I get sloppy. This is a common thing - not a problem - with the M6 as I've read here. It doesn't do it if I pay attention to what I'm doing. I don't think I've read anything about reverse. Maybe someone else has.
