gave her the second wash today, and both times Ive washed her by the time Ive rinsed off and washed the entire car my rotors are covered in rust that looks terrible and is even harder to get off! Is this common? Is there a way to avoid this without any major mods, like changing rotors etc. Everything is stock and I will need to keep it that way until I need regular service replacement or until the wife understand my new obsession

Very common on OEM rotors. Just drive it a little and your pads will clean off the firepath. If you want to paint the hubs (if the rust is there too) ... it's cheap and easy to do.
Some of us just get the zinc coated rotors, but other than what you mentioned ... there's no other solution.

mine rust in like 20 minutes after sitting... just drive it and it's gone... I am switching to eradispeed's so no more rust for me!
Thanks for the advice ...driving it to take the rust away sounds a whole lot for fun than the 40 minutes i spent on my knees cleaning them live and learn, I should have checked with the forum first and I would have had more time cruzing in the sun shime today

Yeah, I'll never forget the first time I washed my coupe and was dismayed/amazed/shocked to see the rust that had formed on my rotors. I was thinking that I had defective brakes or somethng.
But just by driving the car into the garage and of course using the brakes to stop, the "rust" was no longer there. I was relieved...Still seems like something that shouldn't happen though...
Made the mistake of showing the wife the rust and told her I was going to have to get different rotors, pad, hubs etc to solve problem....after a disgusted look and some mumbling about wanting borla exhaust, some kind of intake system...mumble mumble...new car...mumble....she went shopping and set me back $50 on that new exhaust man I love that woman ...and that vette
Welcome to the Forum. As others have mentions, rust on the OEM rotors is normal after washing. A short drive and applying the brakes frequently should take care of it in quick fashion.

After awhile this will drive you crazy. Same thing happens when the car sits for awhile. Check out vettes on dealer lots. The rotors look awful.
I got a set of 4 slotted, drilled and nickel plated rotors for about $250 at www.sportbrakes.com . Recommended by forum members.

I just use oxy clean and i also use it for the inside of the wheel to keep that area clean to just half a bucket of hot water and a few scoops oxy clean should do it also good for cleaning the bottom edges of the car underneath then rinse with clean water and rewax area it's great for getting tar off also under the car.
