Bummer, I feel sorry for you. What a letdown As for the top being damaged, did it look like this? About 4" wide frt. to back on passenger side? I don't know about the 2000, but common flaw in earlier models. As for the wax and dirt, you would most likely rework your paint quality anyway (ex. clay,Zaino) They may come back with a better offer, whichever way it goes good luck
Thanks for the pic, it looks very similar to what happened to the one I was buying except that the one at my dealership had about a 2" stripe. It felt raised from the topside of the top, as though someone put duct tape on the top, left it there for a while in the sun, then pulled it off leaving a raised residue. But the dealer was adamant that they would not even try to remove but gave me some bull about probably being able to repair it at a glass specialty shop. I DON'T THINK SO! BTW, is that top on your car? Is there a fix? Does GM know what the problem was caused by? I'm pretty upset, liked the color and options, mileage 29K, all seemed fairly ok until this mess with the top. I could live with the few scratches and chips, all used cars have them but not with that TOP! Hope another really nice car pops up soon. I'm itchy now!
Shoulda had my baby with me tonight. I've dreamt about her for more years than I can remember. I'da gazed at her lovingly, caressed her gently and never let her go. But, alas, my dealer royally screwed it up! Guess it's back to my wife and a search anew for a fleeting love.
That is a very common problem with the glass tops after they are a couple of years old. My '99 has it as well and it just gets worse with the passage of time. Fortunately mine is a two top car so I have the painted top as well.
I don't know if I would pass on the perfect car over that problem as it is very likely that you will continue to run into it. It would suck to buy a car you didn't like as well just to have the same problem "appear" later on.
I live about 20 miles north of NYC on the west side of the Hudson River in Rockland County.
Rockland County - I lived in Monsey for a year in a previous life - was back in the 60s.
Anyway that is a bummer, but fear not grasshopper - your new love awaits you to find her just around the next bend. Relish the hunt because it is fun - forget the loser dealers that can not get their priorities straight. This dealer has showed their colors - run, do not walk away from them with your head held high!

I can't help you with a local dealer, but I can tell you that you are severely limiting your search to used car dealers in your area. There's a whole country out there, and there are a lot of Vettes for sale.
Here are three forum sponsors that specialize in selling Corvettes, not to mention Kebeck which is in NJ, and Maxie Price in Georgia.
Here are some links to some possible sources for a used C5. I don't want to sound preachy and make it look like I'm rubbing salt into your wounds - but if you want your ideal vision of a C5, then you have to expand your horizons and start looking beyond what's in your neighborhood.
If you find a car 2000 miles away - so what? There are companies on the internet that will perform inspections on your potential vehicle, take pictures of it and type up a very detailed report. Once you decide to consumate the transaction, there are options to get the vehicle home - you can ship it or better still - DRIVE IT! What better way to get acquainted with your Vette than to take a long road trip!
I'm sorry your deal fell through - I know how it feels to get close only to have the jump up and fudge up the deal. It probably for the best - your perfect car is out there, you just have to find it. Stop your pity party , get up off your butt, and start looking!

I feel better do you? I hope so!
Thanks for the sites. I haven't heard a counter offer from my dealer and yet but I'm gonna make one last effort later today. I need to speak with them anyway because they still have my $600 deposit. Not to mention they registered the car with plates in my name and insured it through my insurance company. Walking away is gonna be a mess to clean up, if they don't come through and do the right thing about this glass top. I think I stopped all my self-pity last night, now I'm ready to either negotiate a favorable resolution with them or get back in the hunt. Appreciate your help.

How can GM continue for years to offer a glass top with a known major issue like this? Does GM do anything to make good on it? Have they fixed the problem in the new tops, meaning that were I to purchase a brand new top would it still have the same ultimate problem?
