I just completed having a set installed on my 2002 Convertible. There are a number of things to consider before making the decision.
1. Quality of product. There are a number of companies that provide the door kits. I concluded my research and decided on the kit that has the double struts. This makes the door very light. (At time almost too light, the door wants to lift on its own)
2. Installation: The installation is very intrusive. Cutting of the inside door skin, battery box holder, cutting door support bracket, etc…
3. Extra weight: The new hinges I purchased add an additional 50lbs to the car. The old hinges weigh ~2 lbs, the new hinges weigh ~25lbs each.
4. Cost: The base kit will run you ~ $1K, the custom modifications to make it bold on to the C5 will run another ~$1K. Then you have installation.
5. Versatility: The kit I chose has a convenient opening process. First the door opens like any normal Corvette, ~25 degrees. This is enough to enter and exit the vehicle without lifting the doors. After the 25 degree mark is reached, the door no longer swings horizontal, but now goes vertical. Very light lifting pressure and the door lifts. My doors lift up to ~90 degrees up, much higher than most other kits.

I thought about getting those myself but after seeing a neon owner hit his head getting in, I kinda changed my mind. And after all the poor reviews, I think I would rather put that $2300 - $3000 in the wheels or at least the engine decor. Just my $.02

i am getting a 1999 black C5 FRC in a few weeks, one of my 1st mods i want to be either the lambo doors or polish some stuff in the engine bay. where do i get the kits for the lambo doors?
I thought the Lambo doors were limited for sale to rap stars only?

Come on... with all the neon... what is a bit more... I bet you could mod some into the doors them self’s... so that when they lift... you get your own personal overhead light!!! J/K

My thoughts exactly, I wouldent call a Lamborgini, Saleen S7, Ferrari Enzo, or the new Mercedes rice. They are some of the most exspensive sports cars made. If this mod was $300.00 everyone would have it.
