I keep hearing that the Camero and the new GTO has the same motor as the Corvette (5.7L 350). If this is true then what makes the Corvette faster/quicker than these cars?

I've raced my buddy with his SS and my street tires to his Drag radials we hooked evenly....i ran him with both street tires and it wasn't even funny...I also believe we have better aerodynamics.
Aren't they detuned a little as well?

hrmm my bro had an SS Convert. (bunch of SLP Options) ... he would have whooped up on me. His ran into the mid 12s *12.4-12.6* (stock (w/ lid) on street tires) .. woulda whooped me from a stand still aways, from a roll .. see ya later.
then again he had one of those freak engines, you know the ones that are built to have high tolerances so somehow they produce more power.

It is somewhat frustrating to many Corvette owners that the LS1, LS6 and now the LS2 are shared with other lesser vehicles in the GM food chain. It makes sense cost wise to use an already proven and developed motor in a car that the manufacturer wants to hop up, but from a total purists stand point, it would be nice if what was put in a Vette was unique to the Vette.
I suppose I can't fault GM for this, it makes sense budget wise. And if my car of choice were a GTO, etc. I would love the fact that it had the "same engine as the Vette". I used to hear this from Camaro guys all the time.
Ultimately, no matter what they put the power plant in, it takes a lot more than just the motor to make it a Vette and the other cars that carry said motor just don't measure up to Vette status. The differences in weight, suspension and aerodynamics do make the Vette the better performer, and to match up the other guys will have to spend some mod money to equal the Corvette"s performance.

The previous version of the Camaro and Firebird shared the LS1 with the Vette and the GTO has had both the LS1 and LS2 motors. Weight, aerodynamics, and a little detuning keep them a little bit slower than the C5. But some of the Camaro and Firebirds can surprise a C5 if you are not careful.

Flame Suit On...fire away...
Not to mention looks. I know styling is subjective, but you'll be hard pressed to find people who think the "other cars" look better than the Corvette.
Oh yeah, and I doubt too many GTOs and Cadillacs will wave
Just look at it this way, with the LS1 being put into more and more GM cars, it makes them more abundant and thus easier/cheaper to find parts for. If the LS1 was a rare motor used only in the vette, then it would be easier for parts shops, etc. to jack prices for parts waaayyyy up.
