Default Please Help! 2nd post on jack stands.

I tried this afternoon to get some advice but to no avail.
I guess I need help from the night people.
I've read the thread by ET on soundproofing and bought the FK, R-13, Reflectix, metal tape, floor jack, jacking pucks and jack stands. This will be the first time I've jacked the car and want to make sure where to place the jack and jack stands. Should I jack at the crossmembers and place the stands on the puks or is there a better way? Thanks in advance for the help.

Here are a couple of "Do-It-Yourself" write-ups. One uses the pucks. The other one is without. Hope this helps!!

With Pucks

Without Pucks

Good Luck!

Personally, I only ever use the jacking pucks for just that - lifting the car and I put jack stands under the cross members (usually with some wood spanning them but the world won't end without it either). You can also lift from the cross member but you might need to drive up on some wood first.

As sacrilegious as it sounds to some, there's not one way and only way to lift a car, it's mostly common sense, some experience and lots of thoughts for your safety.

I've only done it without the pucks. Even though I made up a set. You have to jack it up front and rear you may as well stuff the stands in there too. Then you don't have to keep running around doing the stands then back to the jack to let it down. And I have left mine like that for months. No ill effects at all. Plus it's easier to get around under there. My .02

Here`s what works for me;
First I use a 10 mm Socket and remove both left and right front airdams.Total of 8 bolts.
Place a set of rhino ramps on some old rubber floor mats so they dont slide.
Drive the front tires onto the ramps.
using the wood and floorjack method, jack up the rear of the car at the crossmember and support with jackstands on either side.
Change engine oil, tranny or rear end fluids with plenty of room!!
If you need to remove front tires, Use the floor jack at the front crossmember till you can remove the ramps, and support with jackstands.
If you have to drive up onto something, why not the ramps first??

I agree. I use 2x10's stacked in steps four high and about 51/2 ft long. Drive straight on, clears the dam with no problem. I can also drive the rear up and reverse the procedure. Dolen

I use the jackstand on the jacking points - but I use my homemade dual hockey pucks for that rather than the billet pucks (the jackstands might slip off the billet ones). Otherwise, I use the crossmember with a 2x4 between the jackstand and the car on the crossmembers.

Hope this helps along with the other good advice you got here.
