Weasel...I just unbolted the front flange, twisted it a little and pushed the tab out!!! Did just the opposite to get the Ti's back in. How did you get the nuts to catch without pushing the bolts uo in the frame?? I was I would lose them forever!!!
I never even thought aboput losing them. I just took down the stock with the hangers on it and then replaced with the new. Maybe I got lucky, but they bolts did not seem to move.
Do the bolts go into trunck on a coupe? if so maybe the frost king I put down held it in place....

EG-
You are right, very simple mod. The only reason I had my local muffler shop help me out is that I also swapped in an X-pipe at the same time. I couldn't get it high enough off the ground to crawl underneath to cut out the stock H-pipe. I really wanted to do this myself but got impatient. I have been trying to decide which lift to get. I'm most likely going to get a kwiklift so changing out the Ti's for the GHL's in the future will be a breeze.
For you guys that are a little hesitant to tackle something like this yourself check the events & regional area of the forum. See if anyone near you is hosting a "mod day", a local get together usually hosted by someone with a lift. I'm going to one in my area next month should be a lot of fun.
I've had cars on jackstands all my adult life and I haven't had one slip or fall yet. Take your time and place them carefully and you'll be fine. Also note the jack is under tension as an added safety measure.
Why is everyone so afraid of jacking up their car? It's just a car, like any other car - just prettier

Nice write up EG. As far as safety, if your not removing the wheels when working under your car, put your rhino ramps under the tires. This way if the car does happen to fall the only damage you'll you'll receive is a heart attack

Got a kwiklift now and love it !!!
Sorry to hear that. That rotten luck.
I treat working under a car the same as I treat guns - treat them as if they are loaded. For me jackstands plus jack are fine and have been for the past 27 years.
I did not want to pay money for someone put my loudmouths on, I read how to do it in the tech tips section and did it on a lift in my school. It took me about 2 hours to do because of the lift getting in the way but was not hard. I had to save up for a while for the money for the exhaust i was not going to wait longer to put them on.

I cut a deal with my local muffler shop last year where they would put on my Corsa Indy Pace once I bought them for $40. I think this is reasonable, considering if the tips don't align they will quickly tack weld them. I *just* purchased them, and they should arrive next week. Since the weather here in Indiana might not give me a chance to get the car out anytime soon (if it snows again), that will give me more time to locate a friend with a lift, since quite honestly I want to do this myself but I WON'T cut the stock pipes. I doubt I could get the car high enough in the air to remove the stock pipes, and I know that if I ever sell it I want to put the stock pipes back on. Anyway, looking forward to this mod, and I hope I can do it myself, since it looks easy and fun!
Since you cut the rt side stock exhaust...you didn't need to unbolt the swaybar.
The left side will come out in one piece without the swaybar being dropped.
To take the right side out in one piece is what requires dropping the swaybar.
Also, I found there is no need to unbolt the rear muffler hangers. It is too easy to push the bolts up into the boxed rear frame crossmember doing this, and they are a PITA to retrieve. Loosen them a little so they can float a little and make it easier to slide the new muffler tabs in, but don't unbolt them completely..

I am about to do mine also thanks for the write up. I don't see why you have to cut the old ones out though. I am going to jack mine up till I can get them out without cutting. If I ever sell the car the originals will go back in and I'll sell the Ti's probably for what I bought them for. I'll probably have to jack the car up more to accomplish this but I'll get everything ready for removal before it goes to that height. Great write up by the way. EG rocks once again.

I have an A4 and unless you can get the car 36 inches or more into the air, getting the stock system out is almost impossible without cutting. On a lift it is not a problem. MN6/MN12 has a lot more wiggle room to get them out too.

Sorry to hear about your accident 56chevy but I too have been using jackstands for almost 40 years. You've got to treat them with respect but don't be afraid to use them. I also did my own catback swap and got it high enough to get the originals out intact.
Fear sometimes stops us from trying a mod that turns out to be simple. I wish I could afford and had the ceiling height for a lift but I don't so I make do with what I've got.
Hey guys, little help please. Took my GHLs apart to get them lined up "just right" and lost one of the muffler bracket mounting bolts up inside the frame. Can I get access to the bolt from inside the trunk area in my Coupe? If so, how much of the interior carpeting do I have to pull back? Thanks for the help!
