Shaved door handles
Considering this mod and wondering what the gotcha's are.. as well as the best way to go about it (any preferred kit manufacturers?)

do
you remove the door handle and fiberglass or whatever the matierial is over the hole left from removing the door handle
you then use a remote to open the doors
i used my factory keyless entry system to open mine on my s10 with autoloc actuators

Do you mean removing and opening with a solenoid?
I was wondering the same thing.
I think it would look KLEAN!!

GB Vette has done this to his C5, and I'm sure he can offer up some advice when he sees this thread...or, send him a PM.
Also, dragstrips don't allow shaved door handles for safety reasons...just something to consider if you like to tackle the 1/4 mile at all.

There are alot of companies that make the shaved door handle kits that include selenoids, cables, remotes, etc... You should be able to pick up one for about 125 bucks.
One suggestion though. When you remove the handle and "shave" the hole, make sure you use an epoxy such as Lord's epoxy. If you don't do the shaving part correctly, the "hole" will dieback and you'll end up seeing a ring where the handle was.
Lord's epoxy is what GM and several manufacturer's use to bond SMC panels to each other. When done correctly, it won't shrink or come apart...
HTH's,
Mark

I really do like how clean it makes the car look and would have it done by a professional; same company that's installing the Tigershark kit and painting the car. My car is largely going to be a show car so i'm not too concerned about the restrictions this would place on going to the track. I'll send GB Vette a PM to pick his brain on the matter.

I have shaved handles on a lowered, 87 chevy pu. (was modded by the previous owner) It's a lot of fun to 'pop' the doors open.
While I was in the mall at Christmas time, left the lights on and ran down the battery.
There I was in the cold parking lot....arms full of packages and no way in.
The mall security ended up breaking in my sliding rear glass.
Moral of the story is if you do decide to do this, you might think about also installing a hidden release switch. (I had one installed not long after)

OK, now that I know what it is, I don't like it. But it's your car.

Most definitely. I'm WAY too paranoid not to have some way to bypass it should the battery run down.

What a clean and beautiful look. I'll have to put this on my "maybe" list. Perhaps after my scissor doors
