I purchesed my car this year and noticed that I too have a leak in my diff. Will gm replace it for free? there should be a recall notice on this. It does not leak on the driveway but it does leak on to the leaf spring. (damm leaf spring)

The only time I have heard of GM covering this was while it was under warranty (the base or extended warranty) - I would not hold out hope for a recall....

They will repair it if the car is under warranty. I've had mine fixed three times. If you are out of warranty, then you may be able to make your case depending on how long it has been since the warranty expired and the mileage. There is no recall notice on this that I know of.
I actually got GM to pay half on my '98 at 72k miles. I called 800-222-1020 and talked to a rep about the problem on so many C5s. They worked with the dealer and paid half. But, your car has to be in for repair at a Chevy dealer before they will work with you.
Good old GM they no they have a problem. I guess they hope no one looks under ther car hey thats why they installed a leaf spring too catch all the oil.
Will GM replace rear end leak?
They will probably replace it with another one.
Only kidding. In the past parts and service performed at GM was supposed to have a lifetime warranty, but That's probably a thing of the past now.
First, you might check the bolt that removes for checking the fluid level (if that make sense--no idea what the actual name is). Mine was simply a turn and a half loose, probably from assembly. That was a very great relief to me, even though it's under warranty, but ever more to the mechanic, 'cause he hates replacing these seals!!

There is a bulletin on this. #03-04-20-005 Dated Sep. 12, 2003.
My car was repaired under this bulletin with no charge. There has been quite a bit of discussion of this problem on the Forum. I believe it can affect most C-5's. Hope this helps you.

No recall notice that I'm aware of either, only a TSB that discusses using a new differential cover seal (o-ring) that has been developed. Seems the old seals were under size and were not sealing properly in all cases.
Like some of the others stated talk to the dealer and GM and see if they will chip in for the repair. Or PM MAD99C5 and ask him how he got GM to pay the bill. Good luck with it and keep us posted.
