Default 2000 vs. 2004

I currently have a 2000 coupe and am thinking of trading for a "leftover" brand new 2004 mainly because of mileage and warranty reasons. Where is the best place that I can do some research concerning the major differences between the two years? I know about the magnetic selective ride but can't think of anything else. Anybody got any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

I did the same thing but with a 2001. I don't know of a place to research differences. Some things I know about

- new shocks for 2004
- Metal endlinks on swaybars for 2004 (nice if you want to upgrade swaybars from base - a moot point if you get a Z51)
- The timing chain has an internal guide to prevent 'whipping' - probably only important if you're a heavy racer

There may be more but I don't know it. One good thing for me is my 2001 consumed oil. The '04 does not.

If you can do this I'd recommend it. I got a GREAT deal (10k off sticker) on my '04, new warranty, 10 miles on the odometer etc. I'm not sure you can go wrong if your plan is to stick with a C5.

I was weighing a C5 and C6, but couldn't turn down the 10k discount I got on the '04 C5.

Hope this helps!

i think your best bet would be the "corvette black book" by mike antonick.they're updated every year,so right now the "1953-2004" is on the bookstore shelves.any reputable book store should be able to take care of you!

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/index.html

http://www.jakelatham.com/c5/misc/differences.shtml

These two sites should provide some information to allow you to figure out the differences.

EDIT: I checked the link to www.jakelatham.com and it looks like the owner of the site has taken this portion of the site down for editing or something. I would still try the Corvette Action Center site.....

The sites mentioned above will help you out a lot. Other than that, if you can get a great discount off the '04 and they give you a decent price for your '00, then go for it.

did the same thing - 2000 NBM coupe for a new 2004 z06. it was a no brainer! i doubt if you would see any significant difference between a 2000 and a 2004 coupe.

Get an '04 before they are all gone. Huge discounts and 0% financing. Hard to go wrong there.

I was thinking about the C6 but decided I like the look of the C5 better plus the deals they were making on the C5 just couldn't be turned down.

Thanks for your opinions. The C6 hasn't quite grown on me enough to make me positive I want one yet. Plus the fact the the dealers are wanting more than MSRP. I don't want one that bad.

The 2004's come with the power drivers and passenger side Sport seats, dual climate control and Bose system standard. The suspension has the the metal sway bar end links, and the engine has the LS6(Z06) block, exhaust, and intake manifolds. The thin five spokes are slightly different also. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1015033

Here's my .02 because I had the same considerations:

Trade a paid for car at a big loss, get 3 or 4 years of payments, all for a car that looks the same, but with a few performance upgrades that don't matter all that much(to me). My bet is that maintenance/service
would be a fraction of the 20 - 25K price differential between my trade and the new C5.
