Set me stright

OK
I know the M6 cars can not be fixed they need the CLB.
That means the lock never works right?
The A4 cars had been fixed by the recall, right?
Does the lock work or not work after the fix on A4s?
Thanks

Yes (or the K harness some folks have purchased from GM).
Yes..
If the dealer did the mod correctly, yes.
The lock does not work after the recall. Again, if the dealer did the mod correctly.

The lock is what you want to disable because it's the source of the problem. It can stick or become non-functional in the locked position. Therefore leaving you stranded not being able to steer the car. So it must be either re-engineered or disconnected once unlocked so that it will never lock again and leave you stranded. To bad GM didn't re-engineer the lock and put new ones in the cars. But I would think that that was just to expensive an undertaking. So they opted to disable the lock for the A4's and since they can't do that for the 6 speed they decided to reprogram the computer to shut down the fuel supply. They wouldn't disable the lock for the 6 speed because there is no other safety feature on the car to stop the car from being driven if the lock was disabled. The A4's shifter also locks when the key is removed therefore that is enough of a safety measure so they disable the lock in the A4.
I hope that made sense. Have a great day.
