Default Replace tires every 9 months?

I bought my 97 coupe last Jan and it's been a blast but last May I
installed new Kumho Ecsta MX's and already my rear tires are
bald . I checked the mileage and I've been 17,000 miles since
May. Is this normal wear? My tire guy says average 16K to 20K.
Also-I have the alignment and balance checked at regular intervals
as well as tire pressure. Like I said I really love this car but I didn't
realize I would be replacing tires every 9 months.

This Forum is great and I've learned a lot since I joined Jul 2003
(heck, I found my car in the C5's for sale section) now I'm looking
for tire replacement suggestions. I like the Kumho's but maybe I
should go with a harder rubber compound, give up some of the
smooth ride for longer tire life? Recommendations anyone? Thanks.

BTW - I'm running Z06 chromes 275/40R-17 Front 295/35R-18 rear
Paid $162/ea fronts and $223/ea rears
Including install I'm looking at $1,000/9 months

Get the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S - Zero Pressure
Great Tire you should get 30,000 miles plus
Quieter - better ride and handling than stock Goodyears

Front: 245/45YR17 Zero Pressure

Rear:275/40YR18 Zero Pressure

Honestly 17k is not unheard of especially if you get on it every once in a while. I only got 22k (rears) out of my last set of EMTs and they wear like rock.

Kum ho tires do wear out quickly compared to other ones. I bought Kum Ho's cause they were cheap but they wear out quickly, I may consider slightly more expensive tires that last longer. However, I wind up doing smokey burnouts all the time so I may as well stick with the el' cheapo's.

Not all that unusual to go through tires that fast. They are soft compound, so they do tend to wear faster than other tires. I got about 15K out of my rear ones and that was without a lot of hard driving.

I tried the Kuhmo's for my last set and got about 18,000 out of them which was about a year for me. People on this forum recommended trying the Toyo Proxies. They have a better tire wear rating (280 vs 220) than Kuhmo's or Supercar tires. I've had them for about 7K miles and they appear to wear better (less) than the Kuhmo's.

I love my PS2... they are a great aggressive driving tire. These tires hold a corner way better than the EMT's.
