ipod2car - anyone using it here
The installation was pretty simple; access to the CD changer ports are behind the kickpanel in the passenger footwell area (this is where you will plug into the factory head unit). My Z was not wired from the factory for the rear CD changer so I had to purchase the CD changer harness for $40.00 (I paid $189.00 for the iPod adapter making for a very expensive solution but worth every penny in my opinion!).
In addition to the iPod adapter/cabling, you will need the GM adapter (AB-GM10) that connects the iPod adapter/cable to the CD changer ports in the passenger footwell (it should be included in the price of the iPod adapter; mine was) via the CD changer harness.
The instructions mention that you don't necessarily need the CD changer harness (others using this solution have mentioned the same thing), but you will need to modify the AB-GM10 wiring harness/adapter in order to physically connect it to the CD changer ports in the passenger footwell; I did not want to do this so I purchased the CD changer harness. It was simple plug and play using the CD changer harness, the downside is that the CD changer harness is a good 6-10 feet in length so I ended up having to tuck away alot of unnecessary cabling.
So once in place, you have pretty much complete control of the iPod from the factory head unit: iPod battery recharging, power on/off, volume, forward track/previous track.
However, the forward/previous track function is really of no use to me since I have over 3000 songs already loaded on my iPod. I find it much easier to have my iPod within reach and to use the click wheel to flip through the tracks...it would be nice if the factory head unit displayed tracks but you can't have everything I guess!!
