According to these statistics, if we even begin to question the abililty of younger drivers to handle these cars we need to seriously have a chat about the older drivers as well.
Looks to me like as soon as you hit oh say 65 to 70 all the older guys should be seriously considering getting rid of your Vettes as well. If i'm not to feel safe with a 20 year old in a vette neither am supposed to with a 70 year old.
That graph is right off the Federal Highway web site, no bs here...just straight up facts.
The average age of a C5 owner will be dropping along with the price, like it or not, this C5 section is getting younger and younger. I'm getting a little tired of seeing all these questions or issues with younger drivers, i've had mine since i was 17, no accidents, no problems.
The high fatality rate for young drivers is likely due to "maturity" issues. The high fatality rate for older drivers is likely due to "maturity" issues.
This chart would be more relevant if it showed stats for Vette drivers.
I suppose if you're gonna go that way, it's best to go out having fun...driving a Vette and not a beater or a Buick.

not really, younger drivers are normally either inexperienced, immature or both and are more likely to take greater risks. Older guys tend to be more experienced, but at some point in our lives, we start to loose our quick reaction times that we had when we were younger.
You have to admit that it isn't that hard to get a drivers licence in the states. I didn't study at all for the written test, and the driving test is a joke. It would be wise to make people actually learn to drive before they get a licence, but when was the last time you met a wise politician.
As for the older drivers, we all know it's true, but the one thing they do well is vote, so it would be political suicide for anyone to try to do anything about it.
Wonder if it has MORE to do with the ability of a younger driver to survive a severe crash versus and old person.
good point you can look at these graphs and you can read them anway ya want bottom line if you 80 and driving or 18 and driving you got ALOT of stuff stacked against ya my .02
Graph is a bit fudged. You have single years for younger being compared to 5 year grouping on older end. When you get 85+ your chances of dying are (shall we say) much greater anyway. Hopefully my last days are from exhaustion for getting one more coat of Zaino on my Vette.
I believe both sex, i didn't do this to mis-represent anything, just stating, the average age of the C5 will be dropping over the next few years as the price drops. We need to be understanding that we're ALL Corvette owners regardless of age or sex.
From: "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and

I understand the point that you're trying to make here, Chris - but just a glance at the chart looks to me like the 65-70 year olds are still statistically lower than those aged 16-24.
And like anything else - anytime you make broad generalizations about any group (age, race, gender, etc.) you're going to encounter exceptions - like you. But as a rule, insurance companies look at statistics (actuarial tables) to make their decisions on rates. And as someone else pointed out - you can make figures say anything you want.....
There have to be some other criteria that apply to these curves. What speed are we talking about? Suppose the driver is just sitting the car (not moving)? What environment (urban, suburban, country)? What weather (rainy, snowy, foggy, clear)? Lots of unknowns with this data.
I would have expected the older driver death rate increase to start much earlier due to lessening ability to absorb trauma and heal from injury; there must be a huge increase in the weight of wisdom, experience and maturity in the 50-64 age groups! But then again those of us who survived to get in that age group didn't get there from being fools.
I am certain there was some sort of supernatural intervention in my survival several times in my life, so in my opinion there is also some unknown factor involved in survival other than wisdom, skill, experience, reaction times, etc.
Sorry guys........but this issue, from my perspective is getting tiresome. Its like an age debate post every week.
I know......I didn't have to read the post, but damn...i think we all realize that if your not competent to drive a high performance sports car, either because of a lack or maturity or your getting a little long in the tooth, that you shouldn't be in the car. Enough said.......
Lets go back to talking about whether someone should remove their BSM's

I'll tell you what, if I'm too old to drive my C5, I'll buy a C6. This whole thing is a load of . Typical profiling, assuming everybody's alike. I assume from your comments, that old guys like Paul Newman should be in a nursing home and young guys Kyle Bush should be in kindergarden.
