Vinny,
Is that a plexi piece or the stock piece with the carpet removed and painted? Me likey!!
EG
EG, It is a brand new piece that they made out of fiberglass. The amp enclosure was also made from fiberglass as well as the cover for the Nav unit (Left side compartment still usable for small item storage but at the moment is being used to hide the Audio Control DQX Stereo Design 24 bit Digital Audio Processing 30 Band Graphic Equalizer Three-Way Digital Crossover 2 Band Parametric Equalizer 8 User-Programmable Memories) http://www.audiocontrol.com/MobileAu...gital/DQX.html
What appears to be an opening on the top of the amp enclosure is actually clear Plexi. The white sparkly stuff on the top of the amp was just something they did to hide most of the Zapco 650.6 (31" long and NOT the most attractive amps on the market).
amp:
4x75 phoenix gold titanium amp
-2 chans for the front 2 chans bridged for the sub
Head unit:
1 ghz, 512 mb ram, 80 gb hd, soundblaster live 5.1 soundcard
destinator gps
7" touchscreen vga monitor
here is a sneak peak. the panel has been sent out to leathermagic (since that picture) to get retextured to look oem. the ac controls have to be lowered a bit more to sit flush but it is all working and pretty cool
Jim,
That is awesome!! I've been agonizing over where to mount my RF supertweeters - I never thought of putting them there!!
Thanks!!
Stephen
Yea E.G., I saw this done a while back by another forum member and thought it was a great idea. It's not very difficult to do this either.
After removing door panel, I used 1 1/2" hole saw bit to cut the hole in the door handle bezel. Then just cut some plywood discs with the hole saw and glue them to the back of the tweeter to support it against the door. I also used a hot glue gun & black glue sticks and glued all around the back edge of tweeter to help hold it.

Thanks Jim, If they can fit, that is where I'm mounting the RFs!

Bill,
$400 can get you plenty, it just depends on what you want at the end. For $400, you can get that little sub I mentioned and a iPod interface to your Bose. The stock speakers will sound better because you have some bass and the iPod will allow you to have custom mixes.
Of course, it assumes that you have an iPod already Mine's for sale if you are interested - iPod, that is.
I left the speakers alone, I have a Kenwood 200W MP3 Changer Control/CD Head Unit, a Soundgate CRV1 and a 12 Disc Kenwood MP3 Changer in the right rear compartment, additionally I use XM Roady thru the radio with an Antenna mounted horizontal on top of the rear view mirror, with the gain of the CRV1 base control all the way up, the speakers sound fine. Different people expect different things from stereos, I have upgraded every one I have had, but my aftermarket head unti works fine with stock... my two cents
Is that to me or Jim?
I spent just over $2k all told for the actual hardware. I'm installing it all myself, so that was my total cost. I bought the cheap stuff.
Jim's would be more, I would guess - he has some awesome stuff!!

Costs are in the thread beginning at reply #16 - most begin at $2000 and up from there.
What kid of upgrades have some of you done to your C5 stereos? I'm extremely disappointed with my C5 bose stereo in my FRC. It really sucks. The bose gold series that was in my 94 was a better factory setup than this stereo. I think I'd like to keep the original head unit, but it'd be nice to have some better sound. What do some of you forum members think?
I tore the interior out of my recently acquired 2000 FRC. Friend and I were ripping out the interior to install sound deadening insulation. During the job my buddy announces "these f ' ing speakers are crap ! I replied: "hey, they're BOSE !" (rear speakers just above the headrests) "They're crap I tell you....just damn cardboard coned speakers".
So we yanked them out and replaced them with some $100 buck replacements from the stereo shop. Shop guy said the CHEAPEST replacement speakers he had were better than the "BOSE" we pulled out.
Moral of the story ? Well....just another aspect of GM ripping off the consumer. Those stinkin' cardboard coned speakers were made in Mexico and had a little white sticker on the magnet proclaiming BOSE origination.
What was the option price for that little GM rip-off ?
