Long Term Storage
I have searched the forum concerning storing your vehicle, however most was for 6 months to a year. My dilemma is my vette will be in storage for 3 years due to overseas assignment. Is it still wise to fill the tank and add sta-bil or drain the tank? Should I squirt oil down the spark plug holes or leave it. My plan is to replace the heads, intake, and TB to finish off my mods to the engine anyway. I know ALL fluids will probably need to be changed since sitting for so long! I also hope just over inflating the tires will help also of the tires not getting out of round. Thanks
I would put it up on blocks, squirt oil in the plug holes and turn the engine over (with the plugs out) briefly. Sta-Bil is recommended to last 2 yrs. max so I would drain the tank.
My 2p's.

For sure take it off the tires, drain the tank, squirt oil into the cylinders and when you return make sure that you squirt oil a second time before you fire it up. You will also have to replace all fluids and possibly the belts and hoses
Wow, I think I would sell and get another one when I got back!
You didn't say what year but I'd think about selling, taking the $20 -30K and opening a CD. When you get back that nest egg will get you the same or better without having to go through the storage hassle.

It is a 2003 MSG coupe MN6. First, I was able to finance this at 0% with the general. I doubt I could get that kind of deal again later on down the road on a C6 which stills has to grow on me! Second, I have too much invested mods "show & go" to recoup my money back at this point. Third, the color combo MSG/TR interior is very rare along with it being 50th annivrsary model. People that have seen my car at shows, the C5/6 bash, or lucky enough to own one, know what I am talking about. I get nothing but compliments all the time wishing that they had seen the combo before they got theirs I am not holding on to it for collector purposes BUT for having something different from the rest of the crowd
For that length of time and if you are serious about keeping the car as a collector's item, I would not attempt to store it yourself. Look into finding a professional car storage company that focuses on maintaining and storing antiques and other cars. They must exist and I am sure that they would have the knowledge to fully protect it throughout the three years. I have no idea how much something like that would cost.
Thanks for all the replies so far. The link above was very helpful and I will follow their guidelines. Unfortunately, I am allowed to ship a vehicle to Korea, but you do not want to ship a vette over there! The roads are crappy. Plus everyone is an offensive driver From there I am going to Japan to where they are still using leaded gas. Your vehicle has to be 1975 or older to ship. Now, if I was going to Europe...say Germany or England, I would shipped it and probably sell it for a huge profit
Hey, first off, be safe. second, use the sta-bil, and do the other things you have mentioned, and remember, you can always take some leave, fly home, and drive it for a day or two ! I just brought my C5 out of staorage, (sort of) and had no problems, other than the one I knew it had when it went into storage ! Later, Steve.
