just turned 8k miles and the throwout bearing is starting to make some noise when the car is in neutral. took it to chevy and they said that the noise is normal after break in. anyone have an opinion on this?
That's not throwout bearing noise, that's just tranny noise being transmitted into the cabin.
Noise with the clutch pressed in would be a different story... 12k miles on mine, and there's no noise in neutral with the clutch pushed in.
Replaced mine at 13k miles with the new SPEC III clutch and the noise you are hearing is not the throwout bearing. It is exactly what was described above. Not to worry about. Only other thing which could make noise would be the Pilot bearing (highly unlikely). Would make noise all the time not just when the clutch is left out. Just My .02
huckleberrydude: did you find out what was causing the noise?
My 02 Z06 (4500 miles) starts squealing once the engine hits about 160 degrees. The noise begins with the car sitting in neutral at idle, clutch out. I've experienced it several times now.
And it is loud--sounds like a squealing belt. Got under the car this past weekend and the noise seems to be coming from inside the flywheel housing. Standing in the garage pit with my head near the oil filter, removed the small inspection cover, and the sound got louder. Replaced the inspection cover and the sound muffled a bit.
Dealership mechanic thinks it is the pilot bearing.
Any of you guys that have this noise experince a vibration in the clutch pedal as you press on it. I can feel the vibartion witht he car ut of gear just pressign the pedal in and out. I feel it every time I shift. I have no noise but a fair bit of vibation which I have never had before. Car has 7800 miles on it. 2003 Z.

Yes, I have the same clutch vibration. It is a 2002 Z with 16K miles on it. The dealer said they can't feel the vibration (but of course). I brought the car to a non-dealer who indeed said they could feel the vibration and that it was the bearings. I brought it back to the dealer who said, "that means we have to drop the transmission!" so conveniently, they couldn't feel the clutch vibration. I guess I have to wait until I can't shift anymore or until the transmission falls out until I can get any dealer to fix it.
Can anyone tell me what is really normal? Is the clutch vibration normal? I do hear the clunking in the transmission but I believe that sound is normal.
