Please forgive if this is a dumb ? but, when I shut off the motor on my 04 (only had it a few days) there is a rattling noise. That is the best way I can describe it. Does that sound "normal"? Also the clutch will occasionally make a "bang" or "POP" sound when released. Should I loose sleep over these? Thanks for any insite.
You have a very serious problem!!! Give me your car for a few days and I will see if I can fix it!
Nah, it is totaly normal. The drive train is connected together using splined shafts. There are lots of the splined shafts and the tollarences all add up. When you shut the engine off with the trans in netural, as the engine coast down the pistons are pumping against a dead head and as the engine slows down to a certain point the crank shafts reverbrates in the foward and reverse directions and cause the splined shafts between the clutch disk and propellor shaft to make noise.
If you push the clutch peddel in and release the disk from the fly wheel you will not get any noise.
I have also herd the same noise when the clutch is relaesed. Again it is nerve racking but normal.
Bill Curlee: If ya wanna drive down from CT I may just let ya Thanks alot for the peace of mind. I really love the car and am learning how to drive it. I am thinking about cutting the shifter as I do not like the long throw. Other than that I am going to try to resist the erge to mod. Again, Thanks guys.
I have the same problem in my 99 and i took it to a friend and he said the throw-out bearing was shot. I had plans to drop my drive train to replace it here in a couple weeks. Is it a waste of my time and money? Like bill said, if i hold the clutch peddle down while i am turning off the car it doesnt make the noise. If I don't its a pretty nasty sound. So this is nothing to be concerned about????
