I've strongly been considering going in a near opposite direction. I've got black/oak and wanting to go to black/black with MY hilites. Any plans for your old black panels?
You crack me up, you make it sound so simple. If I tried this it would look like Homer Simpson was let loose in a leather shop.
I'd be standing right there with Homer. Looks great

The interior on my 03 is black also and i thought it was boring and i am not as handy as you seem to be so i just bought torch red mats and deck mat and put red letters on the glove box and a vette decal on the steering wheel it give the inside of a black interior a little lift.
Used vinyl becouse you have to heat it to make it fit all the contours to keep nice lines. The leather would have worked but you would not be able to stretch it enough to make it follow the contour and you would see little pleats where the circular contour forms below the speaker and then wraps around to the back (to cover the edge). Over time the color wears off where those pleats are from brushing against, etc. Take a look at a worn leather seat and you can see the cracks and color loss where the pleats form from sitting on it.
Also the color of vinyl is pretty much static. If I buy some today and need more in a month for some other crazy project idea, I will get the color that is a 99% match (dye lots play into it a bit). Leather color fluctuates from one hide to another and a match is hard to make if you don't buy as much or more than you think you will need right away.
And...
Embroiderer's don't like to sew into leather. Leather dulls the needles. The machine used had something like 6 or 8 needles and for a large run, needles become part of the cost. These aren't your typical home sewing machine needles.
