Ok Vortex users, tell me what you think about Vortex. I installed mine, like it alot, and installed Corsa Exhaust too. I ran 8.35 / 83.45mph at the 1/8 last weekend with my A4, and Traction Control on (big mistake on this). I never ran it before, but I thought the time was ok, and I have the 2.73 gears.
I've heard alot about Vararam, but lets hear some from the Vortex users. Let me know.
You have had yours since 99 and no problems. Do you believe a Vararam is that much better than the Vortex? I don't believe it to much different. I think it's more the driver.
I had my vortex since May 2000 and have had zero issues. About the only thing the vararam will get you (over the vortex) is more air charge at high speeds....so you have to ask yourself - is the vararam worth all the extra $$$ for the last few seconds of the 1/4 mile track. And if you only have an 1/8 mile track in your area then don't even bother with the vararam. Just my $.02.
What I don't like about the Vortex is that it sits directly above the radiator and when the car is stopped it sucks in hot air. Other then that I like it. I think the Vararam has the advantage because it always takes cooler air from outside the car. I'll probably have the Vararam installed on Monday and I'll let you know if I can feel a difference.
I hydrolocked my engine with the vortex...just be careful when you hit a puddle. :-(
Several members have hyro locked their engines with the Vortex. All cold air intakes are more prone to hydro lock than non cold air intakes. However the Vortex is a bottom breather that is more likely to cause hydro lock if you run thru a deep enough puddle of water.

Well, I don't think is is that much better, it's just a choice. Claims by both are more than they actually produce, horsepower wise. If you drive fast through a 2-3 ft standing lake, you will get the same results. Ouch!!
I have had the Vortex for two years (37,000+ miles) and have had no problems. I was a little concerned when driving through a very bad thunderstorm in Kentucky last summer. The highway had at least 1" of water on it, it was raining so hard the wipers could not even begin to keep the windshield clear.
I love the Vortex and haven't considered switching to Vararam.
