Default Top Speed in C5?

What is the top speed of a fairly stock c5 mn6 3.42? I thought that the computer would not let you go over 160, is that true? What is your top speed?

Well, the advertised top speed is right at 172 mph for the coupe and slightly less for the FRC because of aerodynamics.

My top speed has been considerably less so far.

BTW, you'll acheive your top speed in 5th gear, not 6th.

Well to tell the truth i hit 173 tonight and wanted to know what others have hit. Yes It was not very stable, but there was nothing in the way and did not have to move alot. My car need new front tires so that made it worse when trying to coast to a safer speed. Car did not seem to be lifting any. She felt like she had more in her, 500 more rpm till rev limiter(or more). But thier was a bend about 3 miles ahead and I just let off, went to netural and coasted for miles.

I'm going to be that your car is lowered and you lowered the back more than the front (took the rack out) and screwed up your down force.

My car is rock solid at high speeds, I've probably got as much time over 100mph as eveyone else in this section combined and much of that is above 140 I can tell you that with a good allignment and at the correct ride hight, the car is very stable.

My top speed is 180mph. I held it for a while hoping for 181, but i didn't have it. I've thought about taping up the nose of the car to cut out some of the drag, but didn't really see the point of it.

If you do the math on on the gear ratios with stock tires, 5th gear at 6000rpm is 186mph

165+ here and it was fine. Braking down is a bit of a rush though. Definitly have to remind yourself to go easy.

Looking at factory program using EFILIVE my speed limiter was set at 181. Mine is a 99. Last car was 02 F body and that was set at 167. After research found that the F body's are just not safe much over 160. However Y body's should be good for 200.

Default 178-180 mph

Way back in 01 or 02, a forum member with an 01 took his stock C5 coupe to the Bonneville Salt Flats and ran his car up to a HUD-indicated 180 MPH.

I have seen 189 in my old C5 (520 RWHP)... I have done well over 200 in this one. (925 RWHP) (GPS Verified)
Mine is not stock though.

At 180 the windows pop, due to the vacuum outside the car is greater than inside...
