Long Term Reliability
Mine's an 02 Vert as you can see.
I plan to keep this car for a long time and I'll take it back to UK when I go back next year.
Looks like my "stealer" sold me an extended warranty that may not be valid in UK
....So I'd best be prepared.
My question for the guys with "more mature cars": are there any trends in reliability? Anyone notice that patricular things start to fail at a certain point or age? Any spares that I should buy on spec so that I'm prepared.
I'd appreciate any thoughts.

I have had the rocking seat problem fixed long ago and I use the CLB to avoid steering collun lock. Other than that, my modded vert has been trouble free. I bought the car new and never regretted the purchase. I will not sell even after I get a Z06 (with the roof cut off).

I have an '02 and the only thing is the CLB and I had the rear seals changed. But nothing else so far and my warranty is over in a couple of months. Good luck with yours in taking back to the UK.

My "mature" '99 with 63k miles just had to go in ffor some minor, but a little pricey, repair work:
a) 4" length hose that connects oil cooler to oil cooler line leaking - cost to repair: $120
b) the electronic receiver that operates the remote key fobs went bad - cost to repair: $300
I don't really think you can predict problems and therefore be prepared. Even in the UK, you'll only be a few keystrokes away from getting parts shipped anyway.

Only real recurring problem area I have had is the rear differential seal - had it replaced three times and I think they finally got it fixed on the third try. Other than that, the car has been pretty reliable.

The only qualifier is many owners (such as myself) treat the car with a kinder/gentler hand....responses from people who use it as a DD over the years could speaker much better to this question....but as the gentleman who fell out of a ten story building is heard to utter passing by the 5th story window, "So far, so good."

Some extended warranties, including GM, can be "turned in" for a partial refund. That might help you wallet when you leave.
My 01 with 56,000 miles has had a few minor issues that were fixed under the GM extended warranty, but doesn't cover everything. So far, GM is making money on my warranty. That's OK with me...
