Interesting event happened at the last autocross. After giving my 2000 coupe a bit of a rest (Lunch) I got in and started the engine. I started in drive and it rolled about 10 feet and completely shut down. The message reported was to take out the key, wait 10 seconds and try again. This occurred about three times and finally on the forth try, I got a regular start and did not have a bit of problems for the rest of the day. (I was getting really impatient and did not wait the full 10 seconds on the forth try)
No problems for the rest of the day or the since that time. Any ideas?
You have an automatic "I started in drive". Well I would get it into the dealers for the column lock recall if it hasn't been done yet. At least they will take care of you properly and disable the lock and you'll never have a problem. But get it in before you have to get it flatbedded in.
Sounds more like a security system fault than a column lock to me. I would pull codes and see what they say. Some failuers like this have been caused by batteries that are headed south, and others have had bad ignition switches, and once in a while cleaning the little pellet (resister) on the shaft of your key (or using the second key) has helped.
Start with the codes
