My car had an existing mount so mine is there for now , though I am tinkering with trying to make the underside black so it's not stickikg out like a sore thumb . Like the idea of the underhood mount idea .

I would suggest using the exterior license plate mount EZPass for this application, as it is waterproof and I suspect more robust than the windshield mount. Besides, the size and color work better on the radiator shroud then the windshield mount.

One definite advantage to having a plastic car!
C5 Curmudgeon,

Excellent idea! I'll be following your lead as soon as I order one from EZpass...Thanks.

I do the same. Plus I use it for three different vehicles so a hard mount is out of the question.

I have one of the suction cup mounts. When I need it I pull it out and just stick it to the windshield behind the mirror. I peeled the velcro off the unit, and got rid of it. There was no way I was using that stuf. I like the under the hood idea though.

Funny this subject comes up as in the mail today I got a beautiful picture of my Corvette's a$$ with a $25 fine.

What ticks me off is on the NJ GSP and ACX you have all of these unmanned toll booths were its either EZ Pass, change or trying (big stress on the TRYING) to feed a dollar bill into a change machine. Which by the way is not the easiest thing to do from a Vette and I'm 32 and in damn good shape. Furthermore, I have tried everything from crisp to downright crumpled bills and these things do not accept it. So after 10 cars stack up behind me I peel out in utter fustration. Do I need to run to the Philly mint and get them fresh from the oven?

And 2nd there is an entry toll to the PA Turnpike at Ft. Washington that you can only use if you have EZ Pass. WTF?

Sorry, rant over....

Really like the external plate behind the plate idea. Guess if it still picks up the signal through the metal plate, then it should work behind the plastic filler in those "non front plate" states.

I put two velcro strips in the same location on the three cars that the transponder is shared by. Top of the windshield, tight to the passenger side of the mirror base. Almost invisible from the exterior and really no biggie from the interior.
