I ended up putting a front plate on mine because I got tired of worrying about it. Not as pretty but less hassel. I was born and raised in Alexandria..
I keep my plate on the front....underneath the cover that is. Pull the cover off for inspections etc... Got pulled over once in NY for it and told the cop I forgot to take it off after a show, popped the cover off and the plate was there. He let me go no prob...just said to remember after the next show.
After it's on a while you get used to it, and I still get lots of compliments on how good the car looks (and not one "that plate is ugly" comment).
I've found that, if you live in a state where the front plates are required, after a short while you don't even see the plate. I guess it kind of gets mentally edited out of the picture.

Hiya Rich! I live in Kingstowne, about a mile from the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station. Pretty close to Hayfield High School. Are you a member of NoVA Corvette Club?

As do most of you, I hate the front plate thing, but also hate shelling out $101 for getting stopped. The lesser of 2 evils.
I put the plate on. Don't like it, but I figgerd that if I was right on the line to get pulled over or not get pulled over, I don't want to give them an excuse. That $101 could buy somthing for the Vette.
I recently moved to Idaho and was speaking to an office about the laws regarding front plates.
He indicated it was the law but he nor does he know of any Cops that pull over for not having it displayed.
Obviously if you get a Cop with a whiled hair, your on your own.
I do keep the front plate behind the drivers seat just incase.
Since every small town in TX is looking to make a quick $200 it isn't worth the risk. After it's on a while you get used to it, and I still get lots of compliments on how good the car looks (and not one "that plate is ugly" comment).
Michigan cut it's plate production costs in half a long time ago and hasn't had any issues with it. Contact your Reps and complain. Hey it's your money their spending.
I usually don't bother putting in on when I take it in to MD, but I was once pulled over and ticketed for not having it on. Now I always carry the plate with me in the back along with the screws and a screw driver. If it ever happens again I'll try to tell the cop how I live in VA and forgot to put it on and ask the cop if he'll let me off if put it on real fast.
My nephew is a MD State Trooper. If you tried that with him, he'd thank you with a $75 fine. They've heard every excuse in the book - bottomline: MD law requires two tags. I just put mine on (cussing the entire time) after years without a front tag just to avoid the paranoia each time I see a cop and the hassle of being pulled over if I'm in a hurry. I'm seeing more and more Corvettes running front tags lately in MD for the same reason. And to be honest, it doesn't look all that bad (with the painted surround) and no one else notices anyway.
I was driving from Corpus Christi to Austin the weekend of July 4th and got pulled over by the State Police for no front plate. I explained that I was at a car show last weekend and "forgot" to put it back on. I explained I had the plate in the back cargo area. He proceeded to give me a warning and asked me how fast the car would go, etc. It may have helped that I also showed him my concealed handgun license. I'm still running without the plate and will contine to do so till I'm ticketed.
My past two vettes have never had front tags and I've never been stopped for it. During my past life as a police officer I didn't enforce that law and I really believe most cops understand people don't use the front tag for cosmetic reasons and not because of other illegal reasons (stolen tag, etc.)
