The carbon fiber hood is the only functional difference between a Z16 and a regular Z06. The rest of the package is cosmetic. If you like the look of the Z16, go for it. Keep in mind that it is buy far the least rare '04 Z06 color combination. You can draw your own conclusions as to why there were plenty of new Z16s on dealer lots long after non-Z16s Z06s were sold out. In the end, new Z16s ended up being sold for about the same price as regular Z06s.

The CE look is distinctive and probably will get more attention. It just might not be the kind of attention you want. When I was buying my Z06, I polled coworkers, friends, nieghbors, etc. about what color looked best. The only thing everyone agreed was that the CE would be their last choice. Everyone liked the wheels, but didn't have much good to say about the stripes. Several said that Lemans Blue would have been thier number one choice if it weren't for the stripes. I'd go so far as to say that if only CE models were available when I bought my car I would not have purchased a Z06 at all.

Based on all of this (most common color, unsold units on dealer lots, etc.) I would not count on a Z16 ever being worth much more than a regular Z06.

He is asking 43,900. I am shying away from it as he won't come down in price and I've been pricing some headers/exhaust/air intake systems for our 2003. Probably will make the mods and stick with one Corvette for awhaile.

That's true of basically any anniversary, collectors edition, commerative, etc, etc, etc edition that GM has ever done. Sure, if you find someone that wants THAT special edition you can get more than a stock car, but on a trade-in forget it.

The Z16 was nearly a $5000 markup over the stock Z06 in 2004. The dealers I was at had them marked UP from sticker over the summer. I almost went for a MY Z06 instead of the Z16 because of the price of the car. (And I would have bought the yellow except THAT dealer wouldn't give me crap for my trade-in.)

Bottom line is I think GM overcharged for the package, and dealers thought the Z16 would be so hot they were marking up the cars. This is why there was such a glut of them at the end of the year.

The stripes had to grow on me. I was a little afraid they were too "in your face" or too "out there." But they HAVE grown on me. I love the car, and am VERY glad I didn't get anything else. In the end I am happy with it, and if my friends, and co-workers don't like the color, screw 'em.

.

When I bought my Z16, I polled........well no-one but myself. I bought it because I liked it, but then I'm not out to impress anyone.

As I think of it I usually don't poll, coworkers, friends and nieghbors to impress them or figure out what I think, but hey as long as they like your car I guess your OK

A Z16 is at 42K today a 2004 Z06 is at what 38K? I have not lost as much as other owners I paid 45 I lost 3 grand in one year not bad for a new GM considering the way things lose value in my opinion.

Let me know when GM makes another striped corvette with this same scheme. It will never happen. Now that the C5 is the only Corvette to win LeMans 3 years consecutively and the Z16 is the car that promotes that.

Too bad the C6R couldn't keep the streak alive! Money in the bank dudes = Z16!

Same things (almost) were said about the 96 grandsports.

Come to think about it the same things were said about the 2003 AE also.

And thats the rub with this situation. The Z06CE(.com shameless plug )
suffered from being 1 year after the AE.

80% of the potential buyers for the '04 had just bought an AE the year before. This alone made the Z16 a buyers market type of car, let alone the early hood problems which put 75% of the production in the last 1/2 of the year and fully 50% in the last 3 months. (Z16 #1000 came off the line on 3/12/04 and #2025 on 6/14/04). That last fact is the real reason so many of these were leftover as the Corvette generation changed.

I think it is the best of it's generation. It has less weight (3000 lbs)and more power to weight than the rest of the C5's......when are you going to see another production car with a carbon fiber hood that is under 100k? All I hear about is the way it "looks" and it's "color". I like the way it drives.

If you don't consider personal preferences for color or body style, the Z16 C5 is the ultimate C5 built by GM. 2004's had the final tweaks and tunes made and the Z16 had the added features. Seems to me that from a build standpoint it had the best of everything at the time. I'm sure that GM will surpass it with technology, and some of the older era cars bring more money today, but for the C5 era, the Z16 is at the top. IMHO

I could care less about what the car will be worth in the future. I love the way the car looks, stripes and all. You'll always get slammed when you trade something in but if you are going to start a collection, the 2004 Z06 Z16 isn't a bad start.

I know there's people out there with faster and "cooler" cars but straight off the lot and onto the road, you can't beat the CE Z06!
