Default ZO6 and Runflats

Just talked to tire rack, the 2005 super car run flat tires (Z51 option) weigh 29 lbs. per tire. They say my 04 super car tires (non runflats) also weigh 29 lbs. This is good. But, the front 05 runflat is about 1 inch narrower than the front 04Z tire. Anyone know for sure how much of a difference that would make in street handling ? Know, I know we are also talking different tire diameters here, but I am willing to change wheels to use these runflats. Tire / wheel experts needed here... Thanks

The tires I called about, the new super car run flats, are the standard tires on the Z51 optioned C6 cars. They have them in Tire Rack magazine adds but I don't have that with me right now. Will check tonight. Good Year is probabely making bigger ones for the C6 / ZO6.

According to tirerack the fronts are 245/40YR18 front and 285/35YR19 rear on the C6 Z51. GY F1 SC EMTs. Too narrow for Z06 or Z06 sized wheels.

Viper front runflats are 275/35yr 18. Same as the new Z51 front run flats. The rear runflats on the Viper are345/30yr 19, a little wider than the ZO6,04 non runflats. Anyone know for sure will the rears fit on a Vette ? Thanks everyone..

I don't want to go to all that trouble just for runflats. ZO6 (01 - 04)tires are in between all the runflat sizes now available. Looking for a solution...

I'm Trying To Solve The Same Problem, As I Take My Car On The Open Road. I've Had Two Tire Failure Experiences And They Were Not Pretty Or Cheap. We All Need A Properly Sized Run Flat That Is Not Ponderously Heavy And Handles Close To The Stock Rubber. I'm Waiting And Waiting And Hoping And Hoping.

The new generation of runflats are much better than the old. As you drive around in your Z, look at all the horrible places to get a flat or worse yet a blowout. The new Z's will have runflats, there is a reason for it just like the Viper.

I would consider a "new" runflat tire for the Z if it had the latest improvements like will be used on the new Z, especially if there is no weight penalty. But I would need them to fit the stock wheels. Hopefully they will be available sometime in our size.

Hopefully the new ones (on the C6 Z06) will be better than what is currently on the C6. I drove the C5 Z06 and the C6 Z51 back-to-back at Spring Mtn. Both had OEM tires. I could definitely feel the run-flats getting squirmy in the turns. The F1 SCs were much more "confidence inspiring".

The original super cars on my 04 are really great tires. But I would enjoy the security of a better, meaning new improved, lighter, ruunflat. Hope some tire companys are listening...
