OK back in the days... like '96ish I visited The US Navy Blue Angels home base and noticed that the pilots were given a C4 painted in blue and yellow sporting the Blue Angels logo on the door/hood. I also read that to this day the pilots have been given a C5 every year painted in Blue and Yellow. So my question is... does anyone have photos or more info on these cars?? Thanks!
Here's the best I could do. These were taken by Forum member, BigAlC5 (I think), around 2002. He couldn't get any closer -- stopped by the MPs. (shoulda asked one of them to take the photo)
Thats them! I wish He had gotten closer. The paint scheme is a little interesting... I believe they can do a better job then that. I remember being in aw when I saw the C4's. I think that is the sweetest looking blue next to Lemans Blue of course. I like how each vette carries the pilot's number on the rear quarter. Thanks for the photo. Got any more guys??
Would love to see pics if they exist but it's against DoD policy for military members to accept gifts. Sounds like a good story but it's unlikely.
Sorry.
You're assumeing that they are supplied by some 'outside entity'. This is covered under an entirely different set of rules if it is done as a 'squadren tradition' by (or under the approval of) the C.O. of the unit.
Since early in the space program Nasa astronauts got Corvettes to drive around as “courtesy” cars. They got new ones every year. Still happens today, there are about a dozen laying around the space center in Texas and Florida at any given time. No special paint schemes I’ve noticed. I do photo work for NASA and see them all the time.
Judging by the background of the photos, they were taken at an airshow. Most of the time when we had the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels at our base for an airshow, the "stars" of the show were provided with "courtesey cars" for the weekend. Usually they were provided by one of the show's sponsors. A couple of times the sponsor was someone like "New England Chevy Dealers" or something like that and the cars were Corvettes or Camaros.
