Default Recall notice

I just recieved the column-lock recall notice TODAY for my 98! Is there anything new or different now such that the "fix" will actually work? Last I heard, GM's fix was all but worthless. Is that still the case?

Don't waste your time if you have an MN6. All they will do is mess with your computer so the fuel supply shuts down too when the steering column locks. Notice I said "when" not "if" your steering locks.

By law they cannot remove the locking plate from MN6's like they can in the A4's.

About the only thing we MN6 owners can do is write to our congressmen asking them to force through a one time waiver from the NHTSA for GM to remove our locking plates too.

I had mine done in November (6 speed), but I also put the CLB back on. So I'm not sure if it would have had any problems without the CLB or not. Didn't have any problems before the CLB, just wanted to be safe.

hrmmm ... ugh no. ... if it ain't broke dont fix it. if you have an A4 completely different ball game and then I should urge you to go in .. with a MN6 you dont NEEED to go in .. if you want to that's your choice.

with JD. I had mine done so that it would be on record as having been done, but made sure that they did not touch the CLB (I was too lazy to pull it out and put it back in afterwards ). With an MN6 you definitely want a CLB, with or without, the recall.

One thing to note is that if you have had a dyno tune, you do not want to have the recall done, as the reprogramming of the PCM will scew up your tune.

If you have an A4 go for it. They will actually fix the problem if you have a 6 speed get the CLB and forget the recall. That's LONG story short.

I finally remembered to try my A4 a few days ago when it was sitting still with the engine off. I can still turn the steering wheel (with considerable effort) so the locking plate must have been removed or was never there to begin with.

If your is mn6 dont bother all the computer flash does is shut your fuel off if you lock up and it sets your compyter back to stock settings. So if you have had any. edit made for modes you have done they will be lost
