I just bought an 04 Coupe from a dealer. The previous owner purchased a maintenence plan. I would like to get the plan transfered but it has to be done by the original purchaser. The car also has a borla cat back. Don't know if he did anything else to it. He left service records in the glove box with his name, address and phone number on them. Would it be unethical or pushy to contact him to ask him to transfer the plan and find out if he did any other mods to the car?
Yes, i would, although i bought mine used and personally met with the owner on several occasions including getting to copy her original window sticker, and other pictures of the car being picked up at the museum.

Def not.. I think it would be nice to call him.. ask him if he had any problems, any maintenance work done, any more mods as you mentioned.. also probably talking to the guyc an get a feel of what type of person and maybe even driver he is.
I bought a 03 z06 last month. The previous owner had the GM extended warranty on the car, I got the paperwork from the GM website and took it to him, He signed it. I sent in the $50 buck transfer fee and had the extended warranty papers back in a week.

Nothing wrong with contacting him. He may have already cancelled the warranty, but it would be good to know. If he hasn't, you may be able to come to some sort of agreement with him.
I just want to let everyone know that the original owner's name should be inside the front cover of the owners manual. Once you get the name and city go to anywho.com and the chances are really good that you can locate his telephone number. Give him a call and he will probably be thrilled to know his baby has a new caring home. He can answer alot of questions the dealer wouldn't or couldn't answer.
Wish I could, Have the guys last name, My car has warrenty till
2007. Don't know how to get a hold of him!
13,000 and no problems. I'll. sweat if something happens
I called the previous owner of my black 99 mn6. Had a great conversation with the guy and he was happy to hear from the new owner of his baby. Found out he ordered it from the factory, and had never redlined the motor. He had only driven it in the rain once after being caught out in it. Incidentally he traded the vette for a new viper and wished he had kept the vette. He said his wife hated the viper cause it rode rough and burned her feet.
Without a doubt I'd contact the previous owner. The warranty is worth it alone. You'll probably need to pay a small transfer fee. Maybe meet him/her for a beer if you're close enough?
If I were the previous owner - I would be more than glad to talk to you - Give them a call, the worst that can happen is he says "I don't want to talk to you".

Contact him. I did on my hardtop, the previous owner was great to talk to. Also all the original parts he had taken off the car, he let me have. Commented that he would just take to swap meet. I was delighted to have the parts and the visit personally with him. Previous owners are delighted to actually see who purchased what was their original dream. Also to know that their baby went to a good home.
I'm also in the "contact him" camp. I did the same, and it turned our fine. He was great about transferring the extended warranty into my name (best $35 I'll ever spend ), and I got to learn all about the car, since I didn't buy it directly from him, although he was the only owner.
Go for it, he'll be happy to see that someone who cares about the car is the current owner .
