I had the same problem at about 120 and took it in and had alignment checked. It was OK.
Was about to get them speed balanced and found some mud, bout the size of a 50 cent piece stuck to the inside of the RF.
Took the wheels off and steam cleaned them and it's good to about 130 or so, but that is as fast as I had it so far.
On my next set of tires and rims I am going to have the tires "trued" There is a place here in town that does it.
We used to do it on a sprint car I drove (slicks asphalt).
Had a set of tires on my 63' coupe trued and it was like riding on velvet and they lasted forever.
Best of luck, but only do that speed on the track.
I agree with all of these guys about balancing/alignment. Of course it's cheaper to get your car balanced first. Also if you have to keep in mind other variables come into play as well. Such as the grade of the road. My ride was pretty smooth at 145, and that was on a semi-rough farm road.
I Can't say but, I have it on good authority that mine is smoooooooth at 135+. We aren't talking wind noise here,, there is a distinct whooooossssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh.
Check your tires for round/balance. I think you will find the problem. Don't forget to look at rims for damage also. 99 Nassau Blue at 70 mph
My '04 is smooth as silk at 150+ with aftermarket tires/wheels.
Only one "major" pass so far: (only have about 1200 miles on it so far)
4th to 5th shift at 146, a few more anxious moments with my foot in it in 5th, but my grin was so big I didn't notice what we topped out at. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to do again...
If Balance Checks good....Have a 4 wheel alignment done. My `98 had a vibration...the way I like to describe it, is like a thrumming vibe...it comes and goes in one secound intervals. Turned out to be the rear wheels where way out of alignment!! It is so smooth now...like "Butta"
But I`ve NEVER! EVER! had my Car past 72 miles an hour!!! Thats my Story and I`m sticking to it!!!
I hit 150 and let off immediatly (and onto the brake, which caused alot of steering wheel vibration)
I wasn't able to pinpoint where the vibrations were occuring on the way up to 150 however. It felt like everywhere, so I'm assuming it was the seat.
At 150 it wasn't bad, but when I saw 180,181,183,186..forget shaking,
my passenger nearly sh*t himself...thank god vetpet was wearing his rubber suit like usual.
