I do not have one yet either, but I was told to get the Rocky Mountain Radar/Laser detector and jammer. What about that one compaired to the previously mentioned?
I have used the V1 for over 4 1/2 years and it has been very good. So far I have been able to detect the trap and slow down enough to avoid being stopped. I believe the differientiator is the arrows. As a few others have stated it gives you the most information and lets you know where the bogy is coming from.
No matter which unit you choose, don't become too arogant in thinking that you are completely safe. You are still very susceptible to the man in the air. In Florida for example there are a number of stretches of highway where air planes are used on a regular basis to cpature extra tourist dollars. The plane will be high in the sky and group of troopers on the ground will not have any speed detection device turn on. This makes you an easy target. Just be careful.

Last ticket I got I was clocked by a plane........FHP were sitting under an overpass in the shade..... :yesnod............and I'm not a tourist
Well I love my K40.
Front and rear radar.
Two front laser diffusers and one in the rear.
Expensive system and very stealth.
Escort laser shifters are old tech. that K40 let the patton expire on.
No tickets here in two years.
Blinder does the same thing the Escort Laser Shifter does. If you think they don't get an error code, you don't understand LIDAR guns. Blinder works very well - but they get the same E codes when it does it's job.
Go to radardetector.net and you can learn about how the Blinder is the only jammer that doesn't give a definitive code that the gun is being jammed. These codes can be produced by other outside influences such as direct sun light and road mirages and are often ignored by operators. If the cop gets an "E 1" code, that means insufficient data.

Call 1-800-331-3030 and ask the people at Valentine One if you can be put on the waiting list for a returned V1. You can get a brand new V1 with 1 year warranty for less than $360 so you save about $50 over buying one that has never been used by anybody.
I have a neighbor who is a forum member who owns both units and finds them basically equal in their detection ability. The sole reason that he and I both prefer the V1 is the arrows. Have them save your tiny hiny once and you will love them forever.
I Be That Neighbor! Scott said it perfectly.
I used them for about a week side by side. These are two of the few that you can do this with. Lesser detectors emit the radar signal generated internally to compare to signals received externally. This is how Cops can tell if you have a radar detector on board. Both the V1 and the Passport have essentially zero emissions.
Both detectors alerted me to cops at virtually the same time and "falsed" at the same locations I have come to know. I still use the 8500 in my wife's car; but, I sure feel uncomfortable when it goes off and I don't know where they are. My wife wants me to spring for a V1 for her, she loves the arrows too. I told her to try to trade with our teenage daughter who got a V1 along with her first car. Sounds like a cat fight in the making!
