Yikes...I recently joined a corvette club and was somehow "convinced" that it would be fine to enter my big boy into a corvette show...I don't know what I was thinking (or not thinking) because I am really paranoid about anyone touching my car, let alone the fact that women will be carrying purses that might scratch him, others will be wearing belts, etc. omg...I'm trying to just relax about this....ok...maybe I can. Aside from the fact that the car has to be spotless, what else should I be aware of? I know..I just need to be calm about this....Thanks in advance!! I think I'll just go and wring my hands a little now, lol.
It sounds like maybe you have had a bad experience at a car show. It's been my experience that at Corvette shows (or any other car show for that matter), there is an unwritten rule about not touching anyone else's car. Most people who attend shows of this nature, are respectful of other people's cars, and adhere to this rule. If it stresses you out that much, don't enter your car in the show. Owning a Vette is supposed to be a fun experience, not an agitating one!

The .1% in my case was a teen-aged boy who was touching the side of my raised hood as he leaned over looking at the engine bay...
I took the opportunity to go over chat with him a little bit about cars. He turned out to be fairly knowlegeable... Then I mentioned how most car owners would appreciate it if people wouldn't touch the cars in the show. He took the hint and let go.

Some shows require a fire extinguisher, first aid kit and flashlight.
Be aware of other show attendees who put up those 10x10 fold up awnings, I watched one get taken 50’ by the wind and shatter a windshield at a vette show in Austin last year, also be on the watch for dogs on leashes, the can tear up paint fast.

I have noticed this too - and if someone does touch it - just politely ask them not too - if they do it is just because they are not paying attention - they do not mean any harm and are always understanding about it

I agree with you, I think you should park the car in a dark garage (So the UV ays dont damage the paint) and place it in a temprature controlled car capsule so no one can even touch it. Whenever you get the urge to drive it just go out in the garage and stare at it. Cause G-- forbid you might wrinklle the leather if you sit in it.
I'm just kidding,I showed my car once and during the hot sommer day 2 kids were playing with "Super Soaker"squirt guns in the show. I'm sure I dont have to tell the rest of the story.
You might want to invest in a set of those rope things that go around your car. That may ease you concerns.

my buddy has a show truck - with all kinds of tv's in it and stereo equipment, etc..
Last year i went to a local show with him, and these two kids just jumped in the backseat and started to touch all his stuff inside............... I started looking around for the kids parents to tell them to get them out - but no one was around, so i went over and asked the kid "Wow - is this your car", he said "No", then i said "then i think you should get out of it"... Kid was only like 10 or something, but he gave me quite an attitude about it....
they hung around for a little while after that - but they did not get back in.
When i used to show my other car - i would be very selective on the show's, there is a 4th of july show that is pretty big in my area, but it is next to the local fair - that attracts alot of punk kids and mothers with their strollers - Not the crowd for me

I agree!! But don't go just to win a trophy or even expect to. Show's, like clubs, can be very political. Just enjoy because you are going to meet some great people.....and probably some azzes too!!

Also, keep your key fob handy. When the kids or the or others who don't know car show etiquette get too close, press the lock button. They get the message when the horn goes off.

Best advice I can give it just to watch the car and the people around it. If someone gets too close, politely ask them not to touch the car. Most are understanding. Be especially watchful for kids - they get pretty excited and can forget about the no touch rule. By all means though, just have a good time.
Hey,
At the shows I've been too, people know you dont touch another mans car. It gives you an excuse to spend some quality time detailing your vette. Oh and a couple hints, wash the glass of your headlights, and detail the black plastic around them. Then open your fuel door and detail in there. I've seen shows come down to the wire, and these points were the tie breaker. Have fun.

If you are that worried, just buy some velvet ropes or Concertina . I'm more worried when I park my car while shopping & the only space available is between a minivan & some big suv
