Default Computer Edit Benifits

Have 03 Z06 and have been told Tune Edit will give an additional 20 hp
Only mod is Blackwing. What do you guys think. How much benifit should I get. Think I can get it done for $100-200. Also, been told by several that may start getting code lights if I make a change. Thought I might also install 180 thero as I expected the fan ingage setting to be changed with the edit. Thanks in advance for the advise

Depending on the tuner and the modifications that are on the car, you may be able to achieve 15 to 20 rwhp. I do not believe that with the blackwing alone that you will see those type of gains.

The better tuners use a couple of different commercial grade software tools. Combined with a real cold air intake, long tube headers, x-pipe, hi-flow cat back my tuner was able to get 18 rwhp gain with a good custom tune.

When I took my 01 Z06 in to the dealer to have some service work done a month or so ago, they also applied the column lock recall, which erased my custom tune. I took the car to a local tuner, since my tuner is in Florida, and the local guys using ls-edit were only able to get a couple of horsepower. Where as my tuner in Florida with his software and experience was able to get 18 rwhp.

Experience and tools makes a big difference.

I'd tend to agree that you won't see those kind of gains from just a the blackwing. I'm surprised by how little don picked up with his tune with similiar setup to mine - my dyno tune picked up 34 hp and 31 lbft.

Hi outrunum -

I went from 356 rwhp to 372 rwhp with just a Breathless LS1 Edit tune at Cruise In IV.

The 100% bone stock dyno run was done on a DynoJet, and the post-Breathless LS1 Edit dyno run was done on Ernie's Mustang (eddy current) dyno.

Benefits I have seen - hmm.....

The most noticeable two are:

The elimination of the CAGS defeat light coming on on the dash. This is set so that one of the variable is out of range - thus no CAGS defeat device is required and the light will not come on...

The car runs 10-15 degrees cooler on average (based on the guage).

Other noticeable benefits are that the rev limiter is bumped up some, allowing you to shift at the indicated red-line without hitting the rev limiter - that helps a numb-skull driver like me in the 1/4 mile arena...

I also notice a seat of the pants increase in power - might be placebo effect, but the dyno chart backed up my feel....

All in all, I consider this to be a well worthwhile performance enhancement.

I paid considerably more than $100 for my tune, but as was stated in this thread, more experience may cost you more $$$....

I have never had a code thrown due to anything related to the tune.

Also, thanks to Z062001 for verifying for me that the dealer would flash the prom if I went in or the column lock recall fix....I have been avoiding the recall for just that reason. Thanks for that heads-up info...

best regards -

That is a lot with just a tune. What was your base line, post mod and post tune numbers?

01 Z06:
stock base line:
340rwhp - 340 rwt

post mods: (long tube step headers, x-pipe, rammer, stingers, t-stat)
385 rwhp - 387 rwt

post tune: 403rwp - 407 rwt
