Default Rev Limiter

I have a 2003 z06 and just bought a Predator programmer. Looking at the paramiters the Rev limiter is set at 6590 in all but 6th gear. Is this correct or where should I set them?

Thanks

6600 is the stock setting for the rev limiter. I wouldn't suggest you raise it without knowing the risks. Mine is raised for SCCA T1 racing, but I broke a timing chain last year as a result. Not a cheap repair.

In my opinion, the 03 and earlier timing chain isn't up to these kind of sustained high rpms. GM makes and sells a heavy duty timing chain and a dampner which fits inside the timing chain to keep the chain from whipping back and forth. If you take your motor apart for some reason (like cam upgrade), I would highly recommend installing both.

I've heard from many people, but can't confirm from anyone, that the 04 LS6 does have the heavy duty timing chain and dampner in it. I bought an 04 LS6 crate motor last Sept, but haven't taken it apart yet to see.

Also, as a minimum, you'll need better valve springs and stronger push rods to safely go above the factory setting. If you're going to go to all that expense you may as well install a hotter cam.

Raising the rev limiter on the LS6 engine has good and bad associated with it.
The good, you MAY be able to get away with one less shift in 1/8 or 1/4 mile racing, this saves precious time, and allows a higher top end.

The bad, reduced engine life/ reliability over the long term.
There is no increase in power above 6500 unless you have done extensive mods to take advantage of the higher rev capabilities.
When I dyno'd my Z06 (2002) the power peaked at 6000, but held even to the redline, I was surprised it didn't drop off like they usually do.
