Push button starter
But to answer your question...a properly installed push to start button only works with the key in the run position.

s!! Until the '50's almost every car made started with a button. Key starters are new school for me and most guys over 50.
I like the button on the C6, but that's about all I like about it!

The modification needs to disable the "ignition" switch portion.
The key simply disables any secruity features (like the column lock).
Then you install a toggle switch to close the circuit.
Then the button to start the engine.
Kind of like this:

First watch the start of this movie:

Then think about how real machinery gets started.
Then see if yours works the same way.
Then, if it doesn't, see how it could.
Then go back up this thread and read it again.
Then, think about all the problems the C6 crowd (and the XLR folks) are having with their fancy key fob starters.
Then, well, then put in that "wooden paddle" starter button.
No worries mate, your car won't start without you in it, which, if things are right as rain, is how the good Lord intended it all to be.
Cheerio!

... since it's Easter.
A starter button is kind of like lamb -- doesn't quite taste like beef, tastes like mutton, but when 'tis the season, so, somehow, it just seems right.
Same thing wiht a starter button -- there's a reason why airplanes and all high performance machinery gets started this way.
So, my suggestion -- pass the mint jelly.
Cheerio!
